MONTREAL—Karate Canada tapped Randy Rix to help develop Canada’s next generation of elite kumite athletes as the organizations new Junior National Team Head Coach.

Rix, who has been a personal coach to several international medallists over the last two decades while also serving as Karate New Brunswick’s head coach, will take on this new challenge of working with developing athletes and coaches from across the country with the goal of strengthening the pathway and guiding more personal best and podium performances in a fun and inclusive environment.

“Randy’s extensive coaching experience and positive track record working with developing athletes in Canada speaks for itself, so we are thrilled to have him working with our national program,” said Rodney Hobson, Sport Technical Leader, Karate Canada. “World-leading coaching is core to the development of our national program. Randy is an extraordinary talent whose athletic background, coaching acumen, from the club to elite level, and leadership skills will play a critical role in developing our athletes into medal contenders internationally.”

The Maritimer is deeply rooted in Canada’s martial arts – from an athlete to coaching at all levels of the sport. Prince Edward Island’s Senior Male Athlete-of-the-Year In 1998 who has many coaching accolades, is now poised to make a greater impact on the national kumite comunity.

Regardless of the role – athlete, club coach, or regional coach, Rix has been responsible for all aspects of program delivery including: goal setting; monitoring daily training; developing long-term performance planning; budgeting; managing the Integrated support teams; relationship building and team leadership.

“I am honored to accept the role of Junior National Team head coach. It is a tremendous privilege for me to take on this position, and I am excited to work with such a talented group of athletes,” said Rix, who has coached and mentored numerous national champions. “My coaching philosophy is based on three core principles: encouraging personal growth and development through hard work, discipline, and perseverance; creating a positive, supportive team environment that emphasizes teamwork, communication, and mutual respect; and fostering a love for the sport and instilling a lifelong desire to continue training and improving.

“I am confident that with the support of the Karate Canada and the Regional & Dojo Coaches, we can achieve great things together. I look forward to bringing the community together to work hard, stay focused, and show the world what we are capable of as a nation.”

Rix will begin his new position immediately. He will work out of his home office in New Maryland, New Brunswick.
