Jessica Guo is Canada’s first two time world fencing champion

Jessica Guo, of the Hua Hua Fencing Club in Markham is the Cadet (Under-17) Women’s Foil World Champion, for the second consecutive year! This is the first time that a Canadian has won two world championships. Jessica was undefeated in the first round in Dubai, and went on to win 6 direct elimination, including a close 15-14 victory in the quarterfinals against Ayano Iimura of Japan. She then went on to defeat Italian Matilde Molinari in the semifinals by a score of 15-11, and Great Britain’s Carolina Stutchbury by a score of 15-7.

Jessica finished 5th in the junior (under-20) event on Tuesday, an event where she earned a bronze medal at the 2021 championships. Today Jessica and teammates Sabrina Fang, Jessie Chen and Isabella Sabatini finished 5th in the team event today, losing only to the #1 ranked Americans.
