Information on Coronavirus (COVID-19)

In the interest of safety to participants, Squash Canada has been monitoring the current Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation as it relates to squash participation in and outside of Canada and shares the following information.

General Information

Squash Canada strongly recommends that participants, coaches, event organizers and administrators carefully review the joint message of the Sport Medicine Advisory Committee comprised of Chief Medical Officers from the Canadian Olympic Committee, the Canadian Paralympic Committee, and the Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Sport Institute Network, found HERE, and copied below for convenience.

International Participation

Each year, Squash Canada enters Canadian Teams in different Pan Am and World Championships, the next three such events all occurring in July 2020. The World Squash Federation and host organizers are monitoring the global situation, but at present have not made any announcements regarding any changes to those events. Squash Canada will continue to monitor any announcements and the Coronavirus situation, and ultimately make a final decision whether to send its team before the organization and participants incur significant expenses or are exposed to unacceptable risk.

Individual players also often travel to compete in squash competitions near and far, whether as a professional on the Professional Squash Association World Tour, or masters players in the World Masters Championships, or junior international opens, or friendlies south of the border. Squash Canada recommends that any individual considering international travel for squash make an informed personal decision. The Advisory note below, and its reference links, are a good source to help with decision making.
Participation by International Athletes in Canadian Hosted Events

For international athletes travelling to compete in Canada, only the Government of Canada should determine travel restrictions. Any traveler that has symptoms of fever, cough and shortness of breath should be advised to have a physician assessment.

National Championships

There have been very few cases of COVID-19 diagnosed in Canada. At this time, the Joint Advisory below suggests that there is currently no indication to delay or postpone sporting events in Canada, or to recommend limits on Canadian-based travel at this time. Squash Canada and organizers of its national championships are full steam ahead with plans to deliver great events and positive player experiences. Monitoring of developments will, of course, continue.
