Skate Canada – KOSICE, Slovakia : The junior men’s competition came to a close today. Russia’s Kirill Sarnovskiy rose form third place after the short program to take home the gold medal with a score of 215.96. Ilya Yablokov, also from Russia, held strong in second place with a score of 207.39. William Annis of the U.S. fell from first to third today to capture the bronze medal with a score of 204.60 points.

A great free program skate from Corey Circelli of Toronto, Ontario. Circelli climbed from eigth place after the short program yesterday to finish the competition in fourth place with a total score of 191.13.

“I felt a lot of redemption in my long program today.” Circelli shared.

The pairs competition also came to conclusion today. Russia’s team, Anastasia Mukhortova and Dimtry Evgenyev took home the gold medal with a score of 171.99. Capturing the silver medal was, Karina Safina and Luka Berulava of Georgia with 168.26 and scoring the bronze medal was Polina Kostiukovich and Aleksei Briukhanov of Russia with 158.82 points.

The Canadian pairs team, Meghan Fredette, of Gatineau, Que. and William St-Louis of Shawinigan, Que., finished in sixth with a score of 131.36.

When asked about their performance, St-Louis said, “It was a good opportunity, this is the beginning and our first international competition so we just learn from it.”

Competition at this Junior Grand Prix will come to a close tomorrow with the women’s free skate and the free dance in the ice dance.

The results after the women’s short program see Russia currently sitting in spots one, two and three. In first, is Sofia Muravieva with a score of 72.52. Sitting in second is Veronika Zhilina with a score of 71.57 and in the bronze medal position is Adeliia Petrosian with a score of 69.30.

Canada’s Justine Miclette of Chambly, Que is currently ranked in fourteenth with a score of 45.45.

The action in Ice Dance will continue tomorrow. Keep an eye out for Canada’s Natalie D’Alessandro and Bruce Waddell of Toronto, Ont. This team is currently sitting in medal contention after their Rhythm Dance this morning and is ranked second with a score of 64.48. D’Alessandro and Waddell are just 0.36 points away from the current first place team, Vasilisa Kaganovskaia and Valeriy Angelopol, from Russia, with a score of 64.84 points. In third place is Sofya Tyutyunina and Alexander Shustitskiy, also from Russia, with a score of 63.10

Canada’s second ice dance team at this event, Chloe Nguyen of Edmonton, Atla., and Alec Roueche of Surrey, B.C., are currently ranked in tweflth place with a score of 44.10.  

Competition ends Saturday with the free skates for women and ice dancing.

Kirill Sarnovskiy, de Russie, s’est hissé à la troisième place après le programme court, pour remporter la médaille d’or avec une note de 215,96 points. Ilya Yablokov, aussi de Russie, a tenu bon en deuxième place avec 207,39 points. William Annis, des États-Unis, est passé de la première à la troisième place aujourd’hui, gagnant ainsi la médaille de bronze avec une note de 204,60 points

Corey Circelli de Toronto, Ont., a exécuté un excellent programme libre. Il a grimpé de la huitième place après le programme court, hier, pour terminer la compétition au quatrième rang avec une note totale de 191,13 points.

« J’ai vraiment ressenti que je m’étais racheté dans mon long programme aujourd’hui », a déclaré Corey.  

L’épreuve de patinage en couple s’est aussi terminée aujourd’hui. L’équipe russe composée d’Anastasia Mukhortova et de Dimtry Evgenyev, a remporté la médaille d’or avec une note de 171,99 points. Karina Safina et Luka Berulava de Géorgie ont gagné la médaille d’argent avec 168,26 points, tandis que Polina Kostiukovich et Aleksei Briukhanov, de Russie, ont mérité la médaille de bronze avec 158,82 points.

L’équipe canadienne de patinage en couple, formée de Meghan Fredette, de Gatineau, Qc, et de William St-Louis, de Shawinigan, Qc, a terminé sixième avec une note de 131,36 points.

« C’était une bonne occasion et le début, notre première compétition internationale, alors nous en tirons des leçons », a répondu William St-Louis, interrogé à propos de sa performance.

La compétition de ce Grand Prix junior prend fin demain avec le style libre féminin et la danse libre sur glace.

Au premier rang, Sofia Muravieva compte 72,52 points, suivie de Veronika Zhilina, deuxième, avec 71,57 points et la troisième, Adeliia Petrosian, en position pour la médaille de bronze, avec 69,30 points.

La danse sur glace se poursuit demain. Guettez les Canadiens Natalie D’Alessandro et Bruce Waddell, de Toronto, Ont. Cette équipe est actuellement en lice pour une médaille, après sa danse rythmique de ce matin, classée deuxième avec une note de 64,48 points. Natalie et Bruce ne sont qu’à 0,36 point de l’équipe actuellement en première place, Vasilisa Kaganovskaia et Valeriy Angelopol, de Russie, qui ont 64,84 points. En troisième place se trouvent Sofya Tyutyunina et Alexander Shustitskiy, aussi de Russie, avec 63,10 points.

La deuxième équipe canadienne de danse sur glace à cet événement, Chloe Nguyen d’Edmonton, Alb., et Alec Roueche de Surrey, C.-B., est actuellement classée en douzième place avec une note de 44,10 points.

La compétition se termine samedi avec le style libre féminin et la danse libre sur glace.
