Hockey Canada Media Recap (May 9): 2023 IIHF World Championship
BUDAPEST, Hungary – Canada’s National Men’s Team picked up a win in its lone pre-tournament game ahead of the 2023 IIHF World Championship, downing Hungary 5-2 in front of 14,756 fans at the MVM Dome on Tuesday.
- Cody Glass (Winnipeg, Man./Nashville, NHL) led the offence with a hat trick.
- Lawson Crouse (Mount Brydges, Ont./Arizona, NHL) chipped in with a goal and an assist.
- Sammy Blais (Montmagny, Que./St. Louis, NHL) rounded out the scoring.
- Milan Lucic (Vancouver, B.C./Calgary, NHL), Joe Veleno (Kirkland, Que./Detroit, NHL), Peyton Krebs (Okotoks, Alta./Buffalo, NHL), Ethan Bear (Ochapowace, Sask./Vancouver, NHL) and Tyler Myers (Calgary, Alta./Vancouver, NHL) contributed one assist apiece.
- Sam Montembeault (Bécancour, Que./Montréal, NHL) and Devon Levi (Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Que./Buffalo, NHL) split time in goal, making 12 and 15 saves, respectively.
- Canada outshot Hungary 35-29.

It was our first time playing together, and usually we all play against each other, so it was nice to get to know each other on the ice. [Hungary] played really well, and they are a good team that was a tough opponent for us. Tonight’s game will certainly help when the tournament starts on Friday.”
