Toronto, ON – August 6, 2024 – Canada SCORES Toronto, launched only seven months ago, delivers best ever results for a first-year affiliate across the North American wide SCORES organization.
Under sunny skies on July 28th, the Zanchin Automotive Soccer Centre, home of Ontario Soccer, served as the backdrop for an incredible day of sport, camaraderie and community service all in support of the expansion of Canada SCORES into the Greater Toronto Area as Canada SCORES Toronto.
Supported by twenty-two corporate teams, and over twenty sponsors, partners and suppliers, the inaugural SCORES Cup Toronto Presented by Tourism Vaughan was regarded as a great success by participating teams and sponsors, and resulted in very close to $100,000.00 being raised for the start up charity. These vital funds will support the launch of Canada SCORES Toronto who will roll out FREE after school programs for the first time this coming Fall in the Durham Region of the GTA.
Compliments and testimonials have been rolling in from team captains and participants as the euphoria of the event is still fresh in their minds.
- “Appreciate all your help and guidance for the launch. The event was really well organized and attended. Most importantly, it had a really great atmosphere from beginning to end. Thanks, Michael” (Team Captain, Accounting Field Partner, Committee Member)
- “Thanks again to you and Rob, and your entire crew, for putting together such an incredible day. It was an absolute highlight of the summer for everyone involved, and we’ve already received messages from our team members to be sure to include them for next year. Truly an impressive feat to organize something on this scale and to create such a fun and inviting atmosphere! Please keep us in mind for the next round, we hope Canada SCORES Toronto will become a long-standing tradition for all of us. Take Care, Kevin & Naomi” (Team Captains, Legal Field)
The day started with volunteers arriving onsite as early as 6 am to begin field set up and prepare to receive the over 320 participants at registration. Prior to the 9 am kick off in both the competitive and recreational divisions, participants assembled at center field of the stadium pitch to hear welcoming remarks from Canada SCORES Toronto Founding Executive Director Nick Taylor, and special guest Francesco Sorbara, Federal MP for the constituency of Vaughan-Woodbridge who brought greetings from the Federal Government and presented Taylor with a certificate from the House of Commons congratulating Canada SCORES Toronto on the occasion of the inaugural tournament.
Taylor shared these remarks with the crowd. “Today, we are not just celebrating soccer, we are celebrating the power of coming together for a greater cause. This is just the beginning! We will launch our first FREE after school programs within the GTA this coming Fall and by being here, you have taken the first step in a journey that we hope you will continue to take with us as we support children in our community for years to come. Your participation is vital to our mission, to inspire vulnerable youth to lead healthy lives, be engaged students, and have the confidence and character to make a difference in the world.”
Two Champions and a Divisional Consolation Winner emerged victorious at the end of the tournament following a day of spirited competition filled with tremendous skill, fair play and good sportsmanship under the watchful eyes of match officials representing the York Region Soccer Association.
