Football Canada Announces Operational Changes

Football Canada, the governing body for football in Canada, is announcing significant operational changes within the organization.

Shannon Donovan, who has been an integral part of Football Canada for the past 12 years, has concluded her employment with the organization. The Board of Directors takes this opportunity to express its deep appreciation for Ms. Donovan’s unwavering dedication to the sport and her invaluable contributions to the association. We extend our best wishes to her for her future endeavors.

Football Canada remains steadfast in ensuring a seamless transition of leadership. During this interim period, Joey Swarbrick will assume the role of Interim-Director Sport, overseeing all sporting matters, while Tracy Sturgeon will serve as the Interim-Director Business, responsible for managing all aspects related to the business operations of Football Canada.

Additionally, the Board of Directors is initiating a comprehensive review of Football Canada’s executive leadership model. Following consultations with our valued stakeholders, the Board will develop recommendations for a new leadership model and will commence the personnel search process to address these challenges. It is our goal to have a restructured leadership model in place by February 2024 or potentially sooner.

Football Canada recognizes a multitude of exciting opportunities on the horizon over the next five years, including the potential for multisport competitions, potentially including participation in the Olympic Games in Los Angeles in 2028. Our primary focus remains on achieving success at the high-performance level while maintaining our steadfast commitment to nurturing the growth of amateur football.

As we navigate these changes, we acknowledge that change presents both challenges and opportunities. Together, we are confident in our ability to build upon our strong foundation and to continue promoting the sport we all love.
