Field Hockey Athlete Suspended for the Presence of Canrenone

Ottawa – September 28, 2022 – The Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport (CCES) announced today that Audrey Sawers, a field hockey athlete, received a one-month sanction for an anti-doping rule violation. The athlete’s urine sample, collected during out-of-competition doping control on July 23, 2022, revealed the presence of canrenone, a prohibited diuretic and masking agent.

The prohibited substance was consumed by the athlete in a prescription medication for which a therapeutic use exemption (TUE) had not yet been granted by the CCES. The CCES has since granted the athlete a TUE for use of canrenone.
