The Fast and Female team is thrilled to share that we are a recipient of Athletics Canada’s “Athletics For All” Grant, made possible by the Government of Canada!

The “Athletics for All” Grant is “designed to remove barriers and increase sport participation for two targeted populations: newcomers to Canada and athletes with a disability,” (Athletics Canada, 2023). The Grant is a part of the Government of Canada’s Community Sport for All Initiative. As a recipient of the grant, Fast and Female will be hosting a “Built to Run, Jump, Play: Girl’s Try-It Day” in Scarborough, ON.

BUILT TO RUN, JUMP, PLAY: GIRL’S TRY-IT DAY

Our “Built to Run, Jump, Play: Girl’s Try-It Day” aims to provide an inclusive and welcoming environment for girls from diverse backgrounds to explore track and field activities! Participants, ages 8-14, will be recruited from community organizations in the East Scarborough area and the event will be hosted at the University of Toronto Scarborough’s Valley Play fields. The event will be fully subsidized, with no cost to participants. The event will include:

  • 4 movement-stations hosted by track and field clubs and athletes focused on: running, jumping, and throwing
  • An opportunity for our participants to meet current and former track and field women athletes from the General Toronto Area
  • Fast and Female swag!

Fast and Female is excited to work with long-time Role Model and former NCAA athlete Brittney Gibbs to execute this incredible event. Additionally, we are excited to be working with Athletics Ontario again, one of our long-time partners, who will support the delivery of one of our stations and showcase the range of upcoming athletics’ opportunities available for our participants! This includes Athletics Ontario’s Finding Ontario’s Fastest Kids campaign. Learn more about the campaign and regional qualifiers by clicking here.

Public registration for the event will open May 27. Priority will be given to community partners to ensure the target demographic is represented. If there are questions regarding our event, please e-mail us at info@fastandfemale.com
