Benjamin Tessier scores perfect 10 at 2019 Speedo Elite Junior Nationals

 

Diving Canada – MONTREAL- Benjamin Tessier of Blainville, Que., scored a perfect 10 on his reverse dive on route to the gold medal in the men’s 14-15 age group platform Thursday to open the  2019 Speedo Junior Elite Nationals.

 

Tessier finished with 464.80 points for the win with his l’Envol clubmate Matt Cullen second at 447.80 and Carson Paul of Victoria third at 392.30.

 

In the second round of the final, Tessier executed his big dive earning four 9.0’s, two 9.5’s and one 10 for 77 points. He had averaged 6.0’s on the dive in the preliminaries.

 

‘’That was a proud moment for me to get that 10,’’ said Tessier, who’ll also vie for gold on three-metre and one-metre this weekend. ‘’I was feeling really confident going into that dive. I was happy with how I managed my stress for the final.’’

 

Tessier followed the reverse with two more solid dives stringing a series of 9.0’s for his backwards dive and more 8.0’s and 8.5’s for his twisting dive, the most difficult on his list.

 

Saskatchewan divers collected three victories in the synchro events. Alyssa Clairmont and her younger sister Kelsey Clairmont of Regina captured gold in both the women’s three-metre and 10-m synchro events while Rylan Wiens and Jamie Spilchak of Saskatoon took the men’s tower synchro crown

 

Wiens and Slipchak were second to Victor Povzner of Maple, Ont., and Joshua Inglis of London, Ont., on men’s three-metre synchro.

 

Action continues through to Sunday at the Complexe sportif Claude-Robillard.
