Diving Canada – Victor Povzner wins gold at Dresden International

DRESDEN, Germany – Victor Povzner of Maple, Ont., won the gold medal on men’s three-metre and Tatiana Conn of Calgary added a silver on women’s one-metre on Thursday to open the Dresden International junior diving competition.

Povzner executed two of the most difficult dives on the day and the risk paid off.

‘’Both the reverse three and half and front four and a half are newer but I’ve been doing them both for nearly two years now,’’ said Povzner, in his third career appearance at the annual meet. ‘’They were pretty stressful and to get the win here means lot. The level is quite high here so I’m happy to show I can be at the top here.’’

Joshua Inglis of London, Ont., took seventh spot.

Conn made a last minute change to her list for the final.

‘’I changed my back one and a half pike to my back twist and that’s the dive I finished off with that helped me win the medal,’’ she said. ‘’For prelims, my pike didn’t go as planned so I felt I needed to change it since I’m more comfortable with the twist.’’

Marie-Laurence Forest of Quebec City was 15th.

Competition continues through to Sunday.
