Diving Canada – Canadians 1-2 on men’s one-metre at Dresden International

DRESDEN, Germany – Joshua Inglis of London, Ont., and Victor Povzner of Maple, Ont., were 1-2 on men’s one-metre on Friday at the Dresden International junior diving competition.

Only six points separated the two Canadians in their battle for gold.

‘’It was a good fight all the way through,’’ said Inglis, also nursing a sore ankle. ‘’I was happy with how I did after a tough preliminary.’’

Inglis added it was the first time he executed his front two and half with full twist.

‘’I missed my reverse and front dives in the preliminary because I was a little off in the hurdle.  I was able the minimize the discomfort in my ankle through ice and stretching between the prelims and final and got more force and power in the final.’’

For Povzner, it was his second medal of the competition. On Thursday he won the three-metre event.

‘’I was quite consistent throughout except for my first dive in the final,’’ he said. ‘’There’s less focus in training on one-metre (it is not an Olympic event), so it does show sometimes in events like today.’’

Povzner and Inglis will join forces on Saturday for the men’s three-metre synchro.
