Davis Cup Qualifiers 1st Round will be contested from February 1 to 2, 2025 at IGA Stadium
[MONTREAL, QC] December 16, 2024 – Tennis Canada can confirm the World Cup of Tennis will return to Montreal, Quebec, from February 1 to 2 for the 2025 Davis Cup Qualifiers 1st Round.
In the hunt for a place at the 2025 Davis Cup Final 8, Team Canada will face Hungary at IGA Stadium to determine which country advances to the Qualifiers 2nd Round in September. The losing nation will be relegated to World Group 1.
“There’s no better feeling than playing in Canada, representing your country, and having the entire crowd behind you,” said team captain Frank Dancevic. “We will be counting on the support of the fans in Montreal as we gear up for what we expect to be a hard-fought battle against a strong Hungarian team. While I couldn’t be prouder of our team for reaching the Davis Cup Final 8 for three years straight, our goal for 2025 is to match our performance in 2022, when we made history by being crowned world champions for the first time in Canadian history.”
Montreal will be staging a Davis Cup event for the second year running, having hosted Team Canada’s Qualifier tie last February against the Republic of Korea. Led by Dancevic (Niagara Falls, ON), the Canadian team of Gabriel Diallo (Montreal, QC), Alexis Galarneau (Laval, QC), Milos Raonic (Thornhill, ON), Liam Draxl (Newmarket, ON), and Vasek Pospisil (Vernon, BC) defeated the South Koreans by a score of 3-1. Success at home is a recurring theme for Team Canada, having won nine of their previous 10 ties played in the Great White North.
“We are all extremely excited to be hosting another Davis Cup event and returning to Montreal’s IGA Stadium,” said Tournament Director Valérie Tétreault. “Last year, we held our first Davis Cup home tie since 2018, and we truly felt the impact of the passionate crowd, who were not only cheering on Canadian players but also local talents like Gabriel Diallo and Alexis Galarneau, who grew up just minutes from the stadium. We are looking forward to welcoming Hungary in just a few months’ time, and to putting on a fun and entertaining weekend for the Montreal public.”
Canada is currently ranked No. 3 in the Davis Cup rankings, while Hungary is No. 22. This will mark the first meeting between the two nations. Player nominations will be announced in the weeks prior to the event.

Tickets for the Davis Cup Qualifiers 1st Round tie between Canada and Hungary are now on sale. Join us February 1 and 2 at IGA Stadium in Montreal, as the Canadian team begins their quest for the 2025 Davis Cup Final 8.
Two singles matches will be played on Saturday, February 1, followed by a doubles match and two singles matches on Sunday, February 2. Match times will be announced in due course.
If the tie is decided following the doubles match, the last singles match may not be contested.
