The Canadian Sport Centre Manitoba (CSCM) is pleased to announce our new Executive Director, Matthew Barr.
“We are thrilled to welcome Matt Barr as the new Executive Director of the Canadian Sport Centre Manitoba,” states Justin Duff, CSCM Chairman of the Board of Directors. “His deep expertise in sport, strength and conditioning, and system development, combined with his sharp intellect and clear vision for the future, make him the ideal leader to elevate our athletes and programs to new heights.”
A Manitoba native, Matt has extensive experience in sport leadership positions while working in international sport for Rugby Canada and the Canadian Sport Institute Pacific, in professional sport with the Toronto Argonauts and New Zealand Warriors, in university sport with the University of Manitoba and York University and the sport technology sector with STATSports. While pursuing a career primarily as a Strength and Conditioning Coach, he graduated from the University of Manitoba (BESS), the University of Western Ontario (MSc) and Edith Cowan University (PhD). He has published several research papers and text book chapters primarily exploring the influence of strength and speed training with elite athletes as well as assessing sprinting biomechanics using video and GPS.
Matt officially joins the CSCM team on April 1, 2025. We would like to sincerely thank the CSCM Board of Directors Hiring Committee for their time and effort in interviewing the multiple strong candidates who applied for this position. We also express our gratitude to Interim Executive Director, Doreen Bechtle, for her expertise in guiding the Centre during the transition period.
