COC statement on Mandy Bujold

TORONTO (June 30, 2021) – The Canadian Olympic Committee issued the following statement in response to the Court of Arbitration for Sport’s decision on Mandy Bujold’s participation at Tokyo 2020:

“The Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) believes strongly in gender equity in sport and is pleased with the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) with respect to Mandy Bujold’s appeal on qualification for Tokyo 2020. We understand that the qualification systems have been extremely complicated and some decisions resulted in unintended consequences. We agree with the decision to grant this appeal recognizing these consequences and the need for accommodation in cases where discrimination has resulted.”
