TORONTO (March 20, 2025) – Today, the International Olympic Committee elected Kirsty Coventry as President at the 144th Session in Greece. The Canadian Olympic Committee issued the following statement:
“The Canadian Olympic Committee would like to congratulate Kirsty Coventry on her historic election as the 10th President of the International Olympic Committee, the first woman and first person from Africa to hold this position. We are confident that President Coventry will uphold our shared Olympic values, working to keep athletes at the forefront of the Movement and advancing safe, clean, and inclusive sporting environments worldwide.
We also extend our gratitude to outgoing President Thomas Bach for his leadership and unwavering dedication to the power of sport over the course of his career.
Sport has the power to unite, across communities and people all around the world. This election comes at a time when the world needs the Olympic Games and the Olympic Movement more than ever.
