Cleve’s Source for Sports July Impact Award Recipients Announced 

July 24, 2024, (Halifax, NS) – Sport Nova Scotia is proud to announce the 2024 Cleve’s Source for Sports July Impact Award Recipients: Mackenzie Smith (Female Athlete), Joey MacDonald (Male Athlete), Tammy Armstrong (Coach), and Kelly Greenland (Volunteer).  

Female Athlete: Mackenzie Smith, Basketball Nova Scotia  

Achievements: Mackenzie played a pivotal role for Team Canada in the 3×3 Women’s Series 2024. Her contributions were instrumental in the team’s impressive finish at the top of their pool, scoring 10 points in the Quebec series. These achievements, coupled with her numerous accolades from Saint Joseph’s University, include winning Big 5 Player of the Week and Atlantic 10 Player of the Week and holding the Saint Joseph’s Game Records with 34 points.  

Male Athlete: Joey MacDonald, Athletics Nova Scotia  

Achievements: Joey, a shining star from Athletics Nova Scotia, showcased his exceptional talent at the 2024 Bell Track and Field (Olympic) Trials/Canadian National Championships. His outstanding performance led him to win the gold in the Senior Men’s High Jump, with a remarkable personal best and club record jump of 2.11m.  

Coach: Tammy Armstrong, Truro Lions Track & Field Club 

Achievements:  Last month, Tammy coached three of her athletes to the high jump podium at the 2024 Bell (Olympic) Track & Field Trials/Canadian National Championships. U20 athletes Jenessa Wolfe jumped a season-best bronze medal win with 1.69m, and Blake Marchand jumped a bronze medal win with 2.01m. Meanwhile, senior athlete Joey MacDonald jumped a personal best and gold medal win with 2.11m. Tammy also coached U18 male athletes who competed in the U20 category, where they also saw success, with Carter Myatt finishing 7th and Drew Mittlestadt finishing 10th.  

Volunteer: Kelly Greenland, Cole Harbour Comets Minor Girls Softball Association 

Achievements: Kelly joined the Cole Harbour Comets Minor Girls Softball Association last winter in the newly developed volunteer House League Coordinator role. Kelly’s duties span a wide range, including maintaining consistent contact with house league coaches, parents, and players and managing scheduling, registration, and umpire coordination. This role aims to provide a positive experience for parents and players, resulting in more girls playing softball. Kelly’s enthusiasm, attention to detail, and organizational skills are incredibly valued and have had an immeasurable positive effect on the organization. 

Sport Nova Scotia is a voice for amateur sport that promotes the benefits of health, personal development and achievement of all participants. Sport Nova Scotia is a non-profit, non-government organization representing approximately 60 provincial sport organizations and more than 160,000 member Nova Scotians.
