Chase Shaw Conquers the National Scene

Montréal, July 22, 2024 – Alberta’s Chase Shaw dazzled once again at the Canadian Junior Development National Diving Championships, which came to a close Sunday in Regina. The Calgary-based diver won a third gold medal in the Junior C category, this time on platform. Shaw had already been crowned king of the podium on the 1m and 3m Springboard competitions since the start of these Championships.

Shaw dominated the platform competition, earning 343.90 points for the win ahead of Québec’s Alistair Nisbet (293.80, PCDC) and Jérémy Vacher (234.40, Envol).

Also notable were the performances of Gabin Emptoz-Lacote (282.65, Calgary) and Graham Neeld (242.65, SFEC), who also took part in the final, but were not eligible for rankings as they are not Canadian citizens.

In an interview, Shaw was at a loss for words after his third win in Regina: ‘It’s crazy and I can’t believe it! It’s a shock. The higher I dive, the more time I have to do my manoeuvres, and I loved it. I wanted that third gold medal!

In the day’s other individual final, British Columbia’s Maia Jane (307.40, iDive) took the top spot on the podium after a close battle with Québec’s Sara-Jade Tessier (306.40, Envol), whom she edged out by a single point. The podium was completed by Élodie Couture (288.65, CAMO), also from Quebec, who won her third bronze medal of the Championships.

‘I really wasn’t expecting this,’ commented Jane. “I was a bit scared because yesterday (Saturday) I had a good preliminary round, and then missed my shot in the final. So, this time, I wanted to be as good in the preliminaries as I was in the final. My optional dives went well and my aim was to get on the podium,’ she concluded proudly.
