[MONTREAL, QC] April 3, 2024 – Part of the Fischer Indoor National Championships has come to an end, with champions crowned in both the U16 and U12 divisions. Five athletes doubled-up during the events, as Miko Lapalme (QC), Joni Faye Colburne (NS), Clara Vicol (BC), Liam John Suh (BC), and Arthur Zhyznomirskyy (NS) all took home two titles.

The U16 division took place at the Club de tennis Île des Sœurs in Verdun, Quebec. Lapalme, who is part of the National Tennis Centre presented by Rogers (NTC), ousted top-seeded Quincy Qianzhou Yao (ON) 6-7(9), 6-3, 6-2 in the semi-finals before defeating Felix Roussel (ON) 6-2, 6-4 in the championship match.

Meanwhile, Lapalme paired up with Yao in doubles as the first seeds coasted to victory, without dropping a set the entire week. They defeated the Quebec duo of Rafael Brown and Randy Rakotonavahy 6-1, 6-1 in the final.

On the girls’ side, Clémence Mercier (QC) backed up her first overall seeding, navigating a strong field to win her second national title in singles. In the finals, she defeated No. 5 seed Brooke Feth (ON) 6-1, 6-4 to hoist the title. Mercier won the U18 National Outdoor Championships this past summer and is No. 2 in the country for her age category.

In the doubles draw, Andrea Cabio (ON) and Charlize Gabrielle Celebrini (BC) captured the title, winning a closely contested final 7-6(5), 1-6, 10-5 over the No. 1 seeds and NTC students Anastasia Malysheva and Andrea Taylor of Ontario. Cabio was also doubles champion at the National Outdoor Championships in 2023.

The U12 division, held out of the Osten & Victor Alberta Tennis Centre in Calgary, Alberta, had several winners this year as it was played in a round robin format, across eight groups in both the boys’ and girls’ divisions in singles. The champions were:
