OTTAWA – Baseball Canada would like to congratulate Women’s National Team athletes Sena Catterall (Pierrefonds, QC), Alizée Gélinas (Trois-Rivières, QC) and Raine Padgham (Abbotsford, BC) who will represent Canada in the Australian Women’s Baseball Showcase that will take place in Lismore, Australia from May 9-12.

The four-day event will feature the top players in Australia along with international representation from Canada, Japan and the United States representing the Adelaide Giants, Brisbane Bandits and Victoria Aces.

All games will be broadcast around the world via Baseball+.

This is the second time that members of the Women’s National Team have travelled to Australia for the showcase. In 2022, Claire Eccles (Surrey, BC), Alexane Fournier (St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, QC) and Alli Schroder (Fruitvale, BC) took part.

Sena Catterall has been a member of the Women’s National Team since 2019 when she represented Canada at the COPABE Women’s Baseball World Cup Qualifier in Mexico and helped the squad to a third-place finish. Since then, she participated in the 2022 Friendship Series between Canada and the United States in Thunder Bay while helping Canada advance to the 2024 WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup Finals with a second-place finish at the 2023 WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup Group A. At the event, Catterall patrolled centrefield for Team Canada for she his .455 in four tournament games. She was presented with the Ashley Stephenson Award for team spirit and performance by Baseball Canada following the tournament.

Alizée Gélinas participated in the Women’s National Team Showcase in 2021 before participating in both the 2022 Friendship Series and 2023 WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup Group A. A versatile athlete who can play both infield corner positions and pitch, Gélinas started three of five tournament games last year and hit .333 including a 2-for-2 performance with two RBIs in a win over Australia.

Like Gélinas, Raine Padgham has participated in all Women’s National Team events since 2021 including the 2023 WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup Group A where she collected two wins on the mound while also making an impact offensively. She earned the win in Canada’s opening game victory over Mexico registering five strikeouts over four innings of work before throwing three innings of relief against Australia in an 11-7 win. At the plate, Padgham managed three hits in seven at bats with doubles coming in wins over Hong Kong and Korea.
