Carleton Women Soar to two Wins, Head to Quarterfinals at FISU 3×3 World Cup

The Carleton women’s basketball team won both of their games on Day 1 of the 2025 FISU 3×3 Basketball University World Cup in Brasilia, Brazil, giving them a spot in Sunday’s quarterfinal round.

The Ravens finished atop Pool C with their 2-0 record, after wins over Payame Noor University of Iran and the University of Valencia from Spain.

Carleton opened play in a hot, humid Brasilia by cruising to a 20-8 win over Payame Noor. The Ravens broke out to an 11-2 lead and scored the game’s final six points to cruise to the win. Noelle Kilbreath (Calgary, Alta./MacEwan University/Genesis Basketball) had an impressive FISU 3×3 debut, as she led all scorers with 11 points, including three from beyond the arc. Tatyanna Burke (Winona, Ont./Cardinal Newman Secondary) had four points, Ingrid Matteau (Gatineau, Que./CÉGEP de l’Outaouais) had three and Dorcas Buisa (Gatineau, Que./Heritage College) had two.

In the second game, the Ravens downed the Valencia 19-17, fighting not only their opponents but 30-degree temperatures and a swirling wind in the Brasilia TV Tower venue, which is covered but still exposed to the elements. The Ravens scored the game’s first three points never trailed. They took their biggest lead of the game at 19-13 and fought off a late Valencia comeback to book their place in the quarterfinal round. The Ravens had a balanced attack, with Kilbreath’s six points leading the way, while Matteau had five, with Burke and Buisa scoring four each.

With the win, Carleton advanced directly to Sunday’s playoff round. They will start with a quarterfinal game at 9:50 a.m. Eastern time. Should the Ravens win, they would play in a semifinal at 1:55 p.m. with the bronze-medal game set for 3:20 p.m. and the championship scheduled for 4:10 p.m.

Coverage of the games will be available online at FISU.tv
