Learn to Play is designed to support and empower women who are stepping onto the ice, whether for the first time or after years of loving the game.
The success of the 2024 Learn to Play program in St. John’s, NL, set a strong precedent for this initiative. CARHA Hockey partnered with TomCats Women’s Hockey last year to deliver a powerful experience that focused on beginner women and to provide a welcoming entry point for those new to the game. Kristan Leach, CARHA Hockey’s own Lead of Hockey Program Development, joined the TomCats for the final sessions, lending her expertise and passion to the program.
The Learn to Play Program creates a welcoming and supportive environment focused on building fundamental skills and boosting confidence. With knowledgeable instructors guiding participants through skating, puck handling, team play, and game fundamentals, players of all levels are encouraged to grow and thrive in a positive atmosphere.
“We are thrilled to support women’s hockey by bringing the Learn to Play program to life right here in Ottawa,” said Kristan Leach, Lead of Hockey Program Development at CARHA Hockey. “This initiative is all about making hockey accessible to women of every skill level,” added Leach. “Whether you’re a complete beginner or looking to sharpen your skills, we can’t wait to get things rolling and see the progress of every player who steps onto the ice.”
