Canada Soccer has announced the 22 players led by Head Coach Andrew Olivieri that will represent Canada in June international friendlies in La Calera, Chile. The matches will serve as key preparation for the 2024 U-20 Concacaf Championship.
Canada will face Chile on Wednesday 19 June, followed by Ecuador on Friday 21 June, and Paraguay on Sunday 23 June.
“We welcome any opportunity to bring the youth teams together and being able to head into a difficult environment with three matches against high quality opponents is an important next step for this group. The U-20 Concacaf Championship is right around the corner and the teams we’ll meet in Chile will prepare us well for our group stage opponents in Mexico. We saw the talent of this group in the qualifiers back in February and now we’re looking forward to taking the next steps towards competing at a higher level,” shared Andrew Olivieri, CANM20 Head Coach and Men’s Youth Excel Director.
CANM20 will be taking part in the 2024 U-20 Concacaf Championship, slated for 19 July-4 August in Mexico. Canada have been drawn in Group B and will face Honduras, El Salvador and last year’s tournament runners-up, Dominican Republic. The 2024 U-20 Concacaf Championship also serves as a qualifier for the 2025 U-20 FIFA World Cup Chile, with the semi-finalists earning their spot at the bi-annual tournament.
There are 14 players returning from the squad that played in the Concacaf qualifiers. Of the new additions; four players have had experience in the previous U17 cycle (Chukwu, Mathe, Dumitru and Bunbury) and there are 4 players who are receiving their first call-up to Canada’s youth teams (Ivanisevic, Juricic, Pacheco, Kane). Unavailable for selection due to club commitments are Kimani Stewart-Baynes and Alessandro Biello while Luc De Fougerolles is presently with our Men’s National Team.
Fans will find coverage across Canada Soccer’s digital channels on Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube featuring the hashtag #CANM20.
