More than 150 figure skaters from across the country are set to compete at the 2024-2025 Skate Canada Challenge in Winnipeg, Manitoba, from November 28 to December 1, 2024.
The Skate Canada Challenge serves as a qualifying event for junior and senior skaters to earn entries to the 2025 Canadian National Skating Championships, which will take place in Laval, Québec, from January 14-19, 2025. Participants registered for the event have previously qualified by advancing through their respective sectional championships.
Several standout athletes will compete throughout the week, including defending senior women’s champion Fée-Ann Landry and senior men’s medal contenders Roman Sadovsky and Aleksa Rakic. Junior pair skaters Ava Kemp and Yohnatan Elizarov, the 2024 junior national pair champions and local favourites from Winnipeg, will be sure to bring hometown excitement.
Rising stars to watch include Lia Cho, who set a Canadian record while winning gold in the novice women’s category at last year’s Skate Canada Challenge, and Parker Heiderich, who claimed gold in his first international assignment earlier this season. Joining them will be 2024 Junior Grand Prix of China bronze medallists Chloe Nguyen and Brendan Giang, who will look to reclaim their title in the ice dance competition.
Competition will kick off on Thursday, November 28, and conclude on Sunday, December 1, 2024. Admission to the event will be free for all competition days, allowing fans to enjoy top-level skating at no cost. The event will also be available via livestream on skatecanada.ca
