Canadian Paralympic Committee – Competition from Prince George, B.C. will be livestreamed February 16-24 via the CBC Gem streaming service, Radio-Canada Sports app and website, and CPC Facebook page

– 2019 World Para Nordic Skiing Championships is next event of the Paralympic Super Series, bringing live coverage of Para sport events to Canadians Ottawa/Toronto, February 13, 2019 – The nation’s best Para nordic skiers will be racing for world titles on home soil from February 16-24 in Prince George, B.C., and thanks to the Canadian Paralympic Committee (CPC) and CBC/Radio-Canada, Canadians will be able to watch the competition live.

The 2019 World Para Nordic Skiing Championships will be available as live streams with English commentary via the free CBC Gem streaming service and the CPC Facebook page, and via the Radio-Canada Sports app and radio-canada.ca/sports. The world championships will be the first event of the Paralympic Super Series to be offered with both English and French streams.

“It’s critical for the growth and promotion of our sport that people can watch and see it happen, so we are so happy to know the entire world championships will be broadcast live across the country,” said Mark Arendz, a three-time Paralympian who will be one of the leaders of the Canadian team in Prince George. “The whole team is really excited about competing right here in Canada. This is the most important event of our season, and it’s encouraging and motivating to know we’ll have Canadians watching and cheering for us the whole way.”

Benoît Huot, a 20-time Paralympic medallist in swimming, will be onsite in Prince George, bringing viewers athlete interviews and additional behind-the-scenes content in both languages through the CPC social media channels. Huot, who recently announced his retirement from high-performance sport, was also part of the Canadian Paralympic Broadcast Consortium’s team for the 2014 and 2018 Paralympic Winter Games.

“We are so excited to continue our work with CBC/Radio-Canada on the Paralympic Super Series, and we will be providing high-quality, in-depth coverage of the World Para Nordic Skiing Championships to Canadians,” said Martin Richard, executive director, Communications and Brand, Canadian Paralympic Committee.

“This competition will be a highlight of the Canadian Para sport calendar this year, as the chance to reach the podium at the world championships is even more special when doing so at home. Viewers in Canada will not only be able to follow each race from Prince George but also hear from the athletes with on-the-ground coverage.”

Canada’s best Para nordic skiers will be medal contenders at the world championships, led by the most decorated Canadian winter Paralympian of all time Brian McKeever. Among the other athletes set to compete are Arendz, six-time medallist at the 2018 Paralympic Winter Games, and PyeongChang breakout star Natalie Wilkie, who won three medals at her first Games.

The Paralympic Super Series, a package of Paralympic sport competitions announced last month by the Canadian Paralympic Committee and CBC/Radio-Canada, provides live coverage of Canada’s top Para athletes at events such as world championships and World Cups in between Paralympic Games. It launched with the Para Alpine World Cup in Zagreb, Croatia, and more events will be announced as the year progresses.
