Canadian Athletes Skate into a New Year of International Competition

OTTAWA, ON (January 14, 2025) – The new year brings new opportunities for Canadian skaters of all levels to showcase their talents in international competition. This month will mark the start of the international synchronized skating season and will see Canadian athletes compete at three International Skating Union (ISU) Challenger Series events.

Kicking off the month of global competition will be the 2025 Bavarian Open, taking place from January 20-26 in Oberstdorf, Germany. After being sidelined due to injury at the start of the season, junior pairs team Ava Kemp and Yohnatan Elizarov will make their triumphant return to international competition. The 2023 ISU Junior Grand Prix Final silver medalists enter the event fresh off a gold medal performance at the 2024-2025 Skate Canada Challenge in December. They will compete alongside Martina Ariano Kent and Charly Laliberté Laurent in the junior pairs event.

On the synchronized skating circuit, the international season will open with the 2025 Dresden Cup, taking place from January 24-25 in Dresden, Germany. As the reigning World Champions at both the junior and senior level, Canada’s Les Suprêmes Senior and Les Suprêmes Junior will be the teams to beat. The NEXXICE junior team will round out the Canadian delegation in Germany.

The month of international competition will wrap up in Rouen, France at the 2025 French Cup, taking place from January 31 – February 1. The senior event will feature 2024 Canadian National bronze medalists NEXXICE, who finished fourth at last year’s ISU World Synchronized Skating Championships. The junior event will see two Canadian teams, Nova and ICE Ignite, looking to set the tone for the new year of competition.
