Water Polo Canada – (Sao Paulo, Brazil, January 23, 2019) – Canada picked up its first win at the 2019 UANA Cup. Emma Wright led the way for the Canadian women, scoring six goals in an 18-8 win over Brazil.

The Canadian Women’s team had a great start, recording six goals in the first quarter (6-1). The Canucks added three goals before the end of the first half while the Brazilians took advantage of a penalty shot and a power play to put the score at 10-3.

Floranne Carroll added one goal to Canada’s lead, early in the second half, but Brazil capitalized on power play chances to bring the score to 11-5 at the end of the third quarter. The Canadian offense exploded in the fourth quarter, Shae Fournier, Kyra Christmas, and Emma Wright tallied doubles while Jaiden Miller netted one to help Canada earn the 18-8 win.

The Canadian men’s team earned a 15-12 win over the local favorites on the first day of competition at the 2019 UANA Cup in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Canada took an early advantage into the game, showing a 5-3 lead after the first quarter. The Canadians kept the same pace in the second quarter as they added three goals to bring the score to 8-5.

The Brazilians came out strong in the second half, outscoring the Canadians 4-3 in the third quarter to put the mark at 11-9.  However, the Red and White got the upper hand in the final quarter, tallying four goals to record a 15-12 win. Canada’s Devon Diggle led the way in scoring, netting four in the game.
