Diving Canada – AZORES, Portugal – Lysanne Richard of Montreal placed third on Saturday in the women’s 21-metre event at the fourth stop on the Red Bull Cliff Diving circuit to remain second overall with three events remaining.

Rhiannan Iffland of Australia remained undefeated this season scoring 326.80 points with Jessica Macaulay of Britain second at 304.70 and Richard third at 298.30.

This weekend’s competition was disrupted by bad weather which caused high waves in the landing area. The competitors executed one dive on Thursday but Friday’s event was postponed forcing the entries to dive three times instead of the usual two on the final day.

‘’It was a big challenge for all the divers today because of the dives,’’ said Richard, third overall last season after missing the entire 2017 season due to back and neck injury.

‘’I did my best double front this year and my triple front was the best of my career. I was feeling fatigue for my back triple but I think I’ll know how to manage the situation better next time.’’

Richard, an acrobat with the Cirque du Soleil, was third at the season opener in the Philippines, second in Dublin and fourth in Italy in late May.

Iffland has a perfect 600 points to stand first overall followed by Richard at 370 and Macaulay is third with 360.

The next stop on the circuit is in three weeks in Beirut.
