Canada’s Guimond Golden in Giant Slalom at Para Alpine World Cup Final

Calgary, Alta. (March 15, 2023) – Alexis Guimond (Gatineau, QC) raced to gold in today’s giant slalom at the 2022_23 FIS Para Alpine Ski World Cup Finals in Cortina, Italy. This is Guimond’s sixth podium this season including a bronze in the downhill at the World Championships.

Guimond was in first place after the first run with just .02 of a second lead. He delivered a lighting fast second run to lock up the gold by 1.3 seconds. Guimond’s last World Cup win was in 2018 in Kimberley, BC.

“I’m stoked with the win!” said a grinning Guimond. “After chasing a win for years, it feels great to be back on the top of the podium. I’ve been looking at myself in the mirror and haven’t been satisfied with my results the last little while. I always strive for the top of the podium and I feel like today was my best effort in a while.”

In men sitting Kurt Oatway (Calgary, AB) finished fourth and Brian Rowland (Merrickville, ON) didn’t finish his second run. In the men visually impaired race, Logan Leach (Lumby, BC) finished fifth, while in women’s standing, Frédérique Turgeon (Candiac, QC) was fifth after the first run and didn’t start the second run.

In the final downhill race of the season at the 2022-23 FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup Finals in Soldeu, Andorra, Cameron Alexander (North Vancouver, BC) placed 13th, his fourth consecutive top 25 finish in the downhill. James (Jack) Crawford (Toronto, ON) was 14th today and finishes the season in a career
best fifth place in the season ending World Cup downhill standings.
