Volleyball Canada – October 16, 2019: Canada beat Australia 2-1 (17-21, 21-15, 16-14) for the bronze medal in the beach volleyball 4 x 4 tournament at the 2019 ANOC World Beach Games in Doha, Qatar (October 12 to 16).

“I am so proud of our team and how quickly we were able to learn this new format. We came a long way from our first match a couple days ago. Coming into our match against Australia, we knew they would be tough competitors. They changed a lot of their team system since we last played them in pool play which forced us to make adjustments even faster,” said team captain, Tori Cowley. Canada also won its pool-play match against Australia.

“We started off a bit flat in the first set but came out super clean to take the second. The third was super tight but we fought hard and never gave up. Everyone did their job and took risks right when we needed them. We are excited to be taking home the bronze for Canada, and hope this new format can continue in the future.”

The team consists of Tori Cowley (Etobicoke, ON), Charlotte Sider (Ottawa, ON), Rachel Cockrell (Winnipeg, MB), Camille Saxton (Calgary, AB), Kerri Battiston (Smit) (Shubenacadie, NS) and Megan Nagy (Bredenbury, SK).

The U.S., who beat Canada in the semis yesterday, defeated Brazil for the gold medal, also today in Doha. Canada did not enter a men’s team.
