Calgary Wild FC Show Resilience in 2-0 Deficit to Montreal Roses FC

Calgary Wild FC battled to the final whistle in their first road match in Montreal, but an early surge from the Roses FC proved the difference in a 2-0 result on Saturday night.

The hosts struck twice in the opening six minutes to seize early control. Within the first minute, Latifah Abdu capitalized on a turnover and minutes later, Tanya Boychuck doubled down on the Roses lead.

“To concede two in the first five minutes has a big impact on theresult,” said Lydia Bedford, head coach, Calgary Wild FC. “On the whole, coming off the pitch, I’m pretty proud of what the players put out for the remainder of the game. Overall, we were pretty resilient.”

The match also marked the Northern Super League debuts for Wild FC’s newest additions, Jorian Baucom and Kathryn Harvey, who each started and played the first 45 minutes.

“We’re really excited to have both of them,” continued Bedford. “For the amount of time they’ve spent with us, they had a good impact in the first half, they both gave us a good foothold in the game in the start and created some opportunities.”

Calgarian’s may have their first chance to see the new signings at home when Calgary Wild FC returns to McMahon Stadium on August 2 to face AFC Toronto in a match presented by United Way.
