Brittany Fraser-Beaulieu and Camille Carier Bergeron Add to Canada’s Medal Count at the 2020 Wellington Nations Cup CDIO 3

Wellington, FL, March 14, 2020 – Coach/student pair, Brittany Fraser-Beaulieu of Saint-Bruno, QC, and Camille Carier Bergeron of Mascouche, QC, had cause for celebration after earning individual medals during the CDIO 3* and CDIO-U25 Nations Cup, held March 11-15, 2020, during the 10th week of the Adequan Global Dressage Festival (AGDF) in Wellington, FL.

After helping Canada secure the silver medal in team competition on March 12, Fraser-Beaulieu and All In (Tango x Damiro), the 15-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding that she co-owns with her father, Craig Fraser, and husband, Marc-Andre Beaulieu, switched their focus to the next day’s individual podium.

In the 2018 Wellington Nations Cup, Fraser-Beaulieu has posted a personal best of 76.990% in the CDIO 3* Grand Prix Freestyle; for the 2020 edition, she shattered that record with a score of 78.720% to capture the bronze medal.

“I had a personal goal tonight, I really wanted to be on the podium,” said Fraser-Beaulieu. “I’m really ecstatic that happened for me. All In had so much energy after two mega days of competitions, I thought he would be a little more tired but he wasn’t. This whole show season for me has been one of the best. I’m extremely thankful for that and excited to see what the future holds for us.”

Steffen Peters and Suppenkasper of the United States scored 81.535% for the gold medal. Silver went to Yvonne Losos De Muñiz and Aquamarijn of the Dominican Republic, who were just a hair’s breadth ahead of Fraser-Beaulieu with a score of 78.910%.

Canada’s Under 25 (25) athletes also had their chance for individual medals after collecting the team bronze on March 11. Fraser-Beaulieu’s student, Camille Carier Bergeron of Mascouche, QC, seized the opportunity not once, but twice in an impressive Nations Cup debut.

Carier Bergeron and Gilles Bergeron’s Acoeur (Acordelli x Ricardo), a 13-year-old Baden-Württemberg gelding, began by beautifully executing the CDIO-U25 Grand Prix on March 12. A personal best of 69.692%, with their highest mark of 72.436% coming from the judge at M, pushed the combination into the bronze medal position.

“When the [first judge’s] score came out I was like, ‘Oh my god, I think it’s a mistake, it must be only one judge that gave me that score,’” said Carier Bergeron, who has been steadily climbing the FEI Dressage World Youth Ranking – U25 with Acoeur. “Then the second one came out and I was like, ‘Wow, maybe it’s true,’ and when third score came out I was like, ‘Oh my god, this is really true!’”

Benjamin Ebeling and Illuster Van De Kampert of the United States clinched the individual gold medal for the Grand Prix with 71.179%, while fellow Americans Emma Asher and Elegance N wore the silver with 70.051%.

Carier Bergeron and Acoeur returned to the ring on March 13 for the CDIO-U25 Grand Prix Freestyle, where they danced to a sweeping instrumental reminiscent of an epic movie trailer composed by Karen Robinson of Applause Dresage. Amazingly, Carier Bergeron had commissioned the music a scant two weeks prior and did not have an opportunity to practice to the track with Acoeur before their Nations Cup performance. But despite the challenge, they pulled off another personal best score of 73.035% for a second individual medal – this time, the silver.

“I’m just over the moon right now, I can’t believe it still. Even though I never did it to music at home, I learned my music, went in there, rode it and hoped for the best,” said Carier Bergeron.
“Acoeur was not a schoolmaster when I got him, so for me to get to know him, for him to trust me and improve our tests, there’s a lot of work behind that and I’m so happy with what we did today. Last year was our very first year together; I got him in January and one and a half months later we were showing U25, so it was a quick transition for us. This year, I feel like we’re just one step higher in the level and it’s really nice to see the improvement.”

Ebeling and Illuster Van De Kampter once again sat in the gold medal position (75.130%), while their countrymen Natalie Pai and Utopie Douilly were awarded the bronze (72.150%).

Speaking to the experience of competing in the Nations Cup alongside Fraser-Beaulieu, Carier Bergeron added, “It’s not Brittany’s first Nations Cup, so she has so much experience, advice and good support. It’s been very inspiring because it really feels like the whole of Canada is a team: it’s not only the U25, it’s U25 and Grand Prix together all the time. And having my coach as part of it, I’m always hanging out with the big tour riders. It’s been very inspiring, having their support. It’s a wonderful experience for my first Nations Cup.”

L’entraineure et son élève ont en effet décroché chacune une médaille en individuel dans le cadre de ces épreuves qui se tiennent du 11 au 15 mars durant la 10e semaine de l’Adequan Global Dressage Festival (AGDF) de Wellington, FL.

Le 12 mars, Fraser-Beaulieu et All In (Tango x Damiro), un warmblood hollandais de 15 ans dont elle partage la propriété avec son père, Craig Fraser et son mari Marc-André Beaulieu, prenaient part à la conquête de la médaille d’argent au sein de l’Équipe canadienne. Le lendemain, le duo concentrait ses efforts sur le podium en individuel.

Rappelons que lors de l’édition 2018 de la Coupe des nations de Wellington, Fraser-Beaulieu avait établi un record personnel en recevant une note de 76,990 % lors de la reprise libre de Grand prix CDIO 3*. Un record qui vient d’être fracassé puisque les juges lui ont octroyé cette année une note de 78,720 % assortie de la médaille de bronze

« Ce soir, j’avais comme objectif personnel de monter sur le podium, mentionne-t-elle. Je suis absolument ravie et heureuse d’avoir réussi. All In était encore très énergique après les deux jours intenses que nous venons de vivre. Je croyais qu’il ressentirait un peu de fatigue mais pas du tout. Cette saison est l’une des meilleures de ma vie. Je suis très reconnaissante et j’ai bien hâte de voir ce que l’avenir nous réserve. »

Ce sont Steffen Peters et Suppenkasper, un couple des États-Unis, qui a remporté la médaille d’or avec une note de 81,535 %. Yvonne Losos De Muniz et Aquamarijm (République Dominicaine) ont obtenu un résultat de 78,910 %, ce qui les a fait passer devant Fraser-Beaulieu avec un très mince écart.

Après avoir récolté la médaille de bronze le 11 mars, les participantes canadiennes à la Coupe des nations CDIO-U25 prenaient part à la reprise libre en individuel. A ses tout débuts en Coupe des nations, l’élève de Brittany Fraser-Beaulieu, Camille Carier Bergeron (Mascouche, Qué.), a impressionné les juges et raflé une seconde médaille.

Le 12 mars, Carier Bergeron et Acoeur (Acordelli x Ricardo), le Baden-Wurttemberg de 13 ans de Gilles Bergeron, ont exécuté une splendide reprise de Grand prix CDIO-U25 et inscrit un record personnel de 69,692 %. Le plus haut pourcentage, qui provenait du juge en M (72,436 %), leur a permis d’être médaillés de bronze.

« Lorsque la première note est apparue au tableau, j’ai cru que c’était une erreur, ou encore la note d’un seul juge », raconte celle qui gravit de façon constante les échelons du Classement mondial des cavaliers FEI de dressage U25 avec Acoeur. « Puis la seconde note a été affichée et là, je me suis dit ‘Wow, c’est peut-être vrai’. Lorsque j’ai vu la troisième note, j’ai dit ‘Ah mon Dieu, mais c’est vrai!’ »

Ce sont Benjamin Ebeling et Illuster Van De Kampert des États-Unis qui ont gagné la médaille d’or en individuel avec 71,179 % tandis que la médaille d’argent (70,051 %) allait à leurs compatriotes Emma Asher et Elegance N.

Le 13 mars, Carier Bergeron et Acoeur étaient de retour dans la carrière pour présenter leur reprise libre de Grand prix CDIO-U25 où le couple a dansé sur une musique entrainante rappelant la bande annonce d’un film épique, une composition de Karen Robinson d’Applause Dressage. La cavalière avait commandé la musique à peine deux semaines auparavant et n’avait pas eu la chance de pratiquer avec son cheval avant sa prestation en Coupe des nations. Un défi de taille que la jeune femme a relevé avec brio, ce qui lui a valu d’enregistrer un autre record personnel de 73,035 % et de gagner une seconde médaille – une d’argent, cette fois !

« Je suis au comble du bonheur, j’ai peine à croire que j’ai vécu cela. Même si je n’avais pas pratiqué ma reprise au son de la musique, je l’avais apprise par coeur. Alors je suis entrée dans la carrière en espérant que tout se passerait au mieux, dit-elle. Acoeur n’était pas un cheval expérimenté lorsque j’en ai fait l’acquisition. J’ai appris à le connaître et il a appris à me faire confiance. Nous avons travaillé sans cesse pour nous améliorer et je suis tellement heureuse de ce que nous avons accompli aujourd’hui. Nous sommes ensemble depuis l’an dernier. Je l’ai eu en janvier et un mois et demi plus tard nous participions au niveau U25, alors ce fut une transition très rapide pour nous. Cette année, je sens que nous avons gravi un échelon à ce niveau et c’est formidable de constater à quel point nous nous sommes améliorés. »

Ebeling et Illuster Van De Kampter ont une fois de plus gagné la médaille d’or (75,130 %), tandis que leurs compatriotes Natalie Pai et Utopie Douilly se voyaient remettre le bronze (72,150 %).

Au sujet de l’expérience acquise à concourir en Coupe des nations auprès de Fraser-Beaulieu, Carier Bergeron ajoute que ce n’était pas la première Coupe des nations pour son entraineure. « Elle a beaucoup d’expérience. Donc, j’en bénéficie, et je bénéficie aussi de son soutien et de ses conseils. Ce fut très inspirant parce que le Canada est une vaste équipe. Le niveau U25 est avec le niveau Grand prix à chaque instant. Et puisque mon entraineure est tout près, je côtoie continuellement les cavalières du grand tour. Ils sont une source d’inspiration et c’est formidable pour moi de profiter de leur soutien. J’ai vécu une merveilleuse première expérience de Coupe des nations. »
