Ayyoub wins Golden Boot award at Cadet Pan Ams

Wrestling Canada – MORELIA, Mexico – Ismail Ayyoub was named the Outstanding Wrestler and awarded the Golden Boot at the Cadet Pan American Championships.

Ayyoub, who lives in Ottawa, won the 80 kg weight class at the championships with a 10-3 win over Jack Darragh of USA. He defeated wrestlers from Mexico, Chile, Peru and Brazil en route to the final.

Originally from Kuwait, Ayyoub moved to Canada in 2013. He was given Canadian citizenship earlier this year and won the opportunity to represent his new country at the Canadian Cadet Trials in April.

The 16-year-old trains with the National Capital Wrestling Club.

Ayyoub will shift his focus to the Cadet World Championships, taking place in Sofia, Bulgaria from July 29 to August 4.

The men’s and women’s team finished third at the Pan American Championships. Other Canada medallist were:

Dechlan Papadopoulos – silver – 55 kg
Stone Lewis – silver – 65 kg
Vianne Rouleau – silver – 69 kg
Makitha Bristol – silver – 61 kg
Samantha Adams – silver – 49 kg
Peter McCrackin – bronze – 60 kg
Kaylee Welsh – bronze – 73 kg
Nyla Burgess – bronze – 65 kg
Diana Arsagova – bronze – 57 kg
Serena Di Benedetto – bronze – 46 kg
