Arctic Winter Games International Committee Announces New Directors

(Whitehorse, Yukon – June 12, 2025) The Arctic Winter Games International Committee (AWGIC) is pleased to announce the outcomes of its Annual Meeting, held on May 28, 2025, where key leadership positions were confirmed in alignment with the Committee’s mission to promote athletic competition, cultural exchange, and circumpolar unity.

The meeting brought together delegates from the seven permanent members, who reflected on the past year’s progress and future strategic initiatives to advance the stewardship and enduring legacy of the Arctic Winter Games. The AWGIC confirms the following successful elections:

Jane Arychuk has been elected as Director (non-governmental authority) of Northwest Territories, bringing her extensive experience in northern education, school sport and inclusive physical activity. Leigh Goldie has been re-elected as Director (non-governmental authority) for Alberta for a second term under the revised bylaws, a recognition of his continued commitment and leadership. Both Guy Yango and Karl Davidsen were ratified as Directors (governmental authority) for Nunavik and Kalaallit Nunaat, respectively. This is the first time Nunavik has had a voice at the table.

In accordance with AWGIC’s governance procedures, these appointments will serve terms of four years and play a pivotal role in guiding the strategic direction of the AWGIC. Mrs. Arychuk was also elected as Secretary at a special board meeting following the Annual Meeting.

Executive Director, Moira Lassen, emphasized the importance of continuity and fresh perspective: “The strength of the AWGIC lies in our shared vision and the dedication of our leadership. We are confident that this newly confirmed team will steward the Games with integrity, innovation, and a deep respect for the cultures and youth of the circumpolar north.”

The AWGIC remains steadfast in its commitment to stewarding inspiring and unifying Arctic Winter Games that celebrate athletic excellence, cultural achievement, and meaningful connection across the North.
