OTTAWA, ON – Archery Canada’s Para Program is happy to announce the 7 athletes who will make up the national squad for the 2023 season. The squad is composed of strong and developing athletes; this is the group of athletes from which teams for international competitions will be selected.

The athletes of the 2023 National Development Squad are:

  • Chris Waterman
  • Jean-François Lavergne
  • Shawn Matheson
  • Rob Cox
  • Kyle Tremblay
  • Carolyn Lindner
  • Kevin Evans

Leading the squad is Kevin Evans, a longtime veteran of the sport. Chris Waterman emerged on the international scene in 2022, where he competed on two international teams. Rob Cox, who returned to the sport last year after a multi-year break, will also bring some international experience to the team. The remainder of the squad is made up of athletes who are new to the squad, those who will work to develop and hone their skills, and those who have returned to the national group after some time away. Archery Canada looks forward to seeing these athletes perform in international competition this year.

The first international event that the athletes will attend is the Para-Archery European Cup in Nove Mesto nad Metuji, Czech Republic. Ahead of the event, para technical leadership will run a training camp to start preparing the athletes for the outdoor competitive season. In mid-July, athletes will be selected to fill a team to attend the World Para Championships in Pilsen, also located in the Czech Republic. The season will end with the Parapan Am Games in Santiago, Chile in late November. Both Para Worlds and the Para Pan Am Games will be key qualification events for the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games.
