April Cleve’s Source for Sports Impact Award Recipients Announced

April 28, 2025(Halifax, NS) – Sport Nova Scotia is proud to announce the Cleve’s Source for Sports April Impact Award Recipients: Scott Elliott (Volunteer), Cohen Norman (Male Athlete) and Mike Carew (Coach).   

Volunteer: Scott Elliott,Athletics   

Achievements: Scott has volunteered at the youth level in Track and Field for many years. In the last few years, as the result of Scott’s efforts of daily after-school practices, participation in track and field at Astral Drive Junior High has grown to more than 100 athletes participating in local district meets. Scott has incorporated opportunities for students to participate in the Best Buddies program, where they help athletes with learning or physical challenges. At the track meet, there are events for all students and the Best Buddies program ensures students are supported regardless of limitations or challenges. Scott gives his time as a dedicated mentor, teacher and leader at the school and within the sport. 

Male Athlete: Cohen Norman, Cross Country Skiing  

Achievements: Last month, Cohen competed at the 2025 Nordiq Canada Ski Nationals alongside more than 800 athletes in Canmore, Alberta. In his first season of competing in U20, his final ranking of 17th was an impressive finish in the 1.3 km Classic Sprint category, which is a highly competitive field. Cohen has competed nationally and provincially; he is balancing sport and full-time studies at the University of Ottawa, where he is a member of the Cross-Country Ski Team and the University of Ottawa Nordiq Team.   

Coach: Mike Carew, Flag Football  

Achievements: Over the past few years, Mike has been instrumental in the growth of flag football at the youth level. What started as a team of 12 has now expanded to 50 girls on three teams. Mike’s coaching philosophy includes providing leadership opportunities for athletes, which has not only resulted in the Grade 9 students coaching the Grade 7 and 8 teams, but also fostering friendships and school spirit. His dedication has led to several of his athletes making it to the provincial team.   

Sport Nova Scotia is a voice for amateur sport that promotes the benefits of health, personal development and achievement of all participants. Sport Nova Scotia is a non-profit, non-government organization representing approximately 60 provincial sport organizations and more than 160,000 member Nova Scotians.
