Curling Canada is again investing in the future of the sport by awarding $50,000 in scholarships to 20 deserving student-athletes through itsĀ 2025 Scholarship program.
The program includes two streams: the For the Love of Curling Scholarship and the Fran Todd All Heart Scholarship. Each stream will award 10 scholarships to exemplary applicants who demonstrate excellence in curling, maintain strong academic standing and exhibit leadership within their communities.
The For the Love of Curling Scholarship, established in 2014, supports young athletes who excel on the ice and in the classroom while actively contributing to their communities through coaching, instructing and volunteer activities.
The Fran Todd All Heart Scholarship, now in its second year of operation, is the newest stream that recognizes student-athletes who embody the values of curling and prioritize giving back to the sport by sharing their passion with their communities to create meaningful change.
Since 2014, $315,000 has been invested in Curling Canadaās philanthropic scholarship programs.
Two of the scholarships are funded and presented by the Governor Generalās Curling Club, an honourary society under the patronage of the Governor General of Canada since 1874.
āItās because of the generosity of the Canadian curling communityāincluding the members of the Governor Generalās Curling Clubāthat weāre able to uplift and invest in the next generation of passionate, skilled, and community-minded curlers,ā said Brodie Bazinet, Curling Canadaās Senior Manager of Philanthropy and Youth Impacts. āThese scholarships empower student-athletes to chase excellence on the ice and inspire change off it.ā
āThe Governor Generalās Curling Club is proud to support these scholarships and the extraordinary young curlers who receive them,ā said Pat Reid of the Governor Generalās Curling Club. āEach year, we fund and present two of the 20 Curling Canada scholarships, and for the past four years, weāve witnessed how this targeted support helps shape future leaders who embody the spirit, sportsmanship, and passion that define our sport. Itās an honour to contribute to their journey as they pursue their dreams and give back to the curling community.ā
Applicants must be 22 years old or younger as of Dec. 31, 2025. The application process requires a personal essay reflecting on how an applicantās personal curling journey, including their support of the curling community, has influenced the person they are today, along with details of the participantās curling and academic achievements and volunteer/community involvement. Students who have previously received one scholarship stream are still eligible to apply for the second stream.
A selection panel includes Curling Canada Board of Governors Chair Teri Palynchuk, Curling Canada Board of Governor Jennifer Howard, Curling Canada CEO Nolan Thiessen, former Curling Canada Board of Governor and curling leadership volunteer Fran Todd, Governor Generalās Curling Club representative Darrell Ell, Curling Canadaās Senior Manager of Philanthropy and Youth Impacts Brodie Bazinet, and previous scholarship recipients Jayden King (For the Love of Curling & Fran Todd All Heart) and Emma Nagel (For the Love of Curling).
The application deadline is June 9, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. ET. Recipients will be announced in September 2025.
