Grant MacDonald, one of Canada’s leading sport tourism and major event professionals, has been appointed Head of Consulting by the Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance (CSTA). In this new role, Grant will be responsible for the project management of CSTA’s consulting services, including business development, client communications, customer relations and liaison with the CSTA’s team of expert consultants.

Grant has already worked on a number of CSTA projects, most recently, developing the Sport Tourism Assessment Template (STAT), designed to assist communities assess their current position and identify areas for strategic and tactical development in both event bidding and hosting. Grant will also be involved in new program and industry tools development, as well as recruiting speakers and panelists for Sport Events Congress.

About Grant MacDonald:

With significant experience in sport tourism and event hosting, strategy and business process development and project management, Grant’s background includes 28-years of experience in amateur sports, sport tourism, government, and the private sector. Through event hosting, he has led the development of strategies and new business throughout his career.

He graduated from Dalhousie University with a Bachelor of Recreation (Sport Administration), has completed Major League Baseball’s Scout Development Program, and holds a Certificate from the School of Professional Studies (Sport Industry Essentials) from Columbia University. He is also the only CSTA consultant who can claim a world series title, having worked as a scout for the Toronto Blue Jays for eight years, including the World Series year of 1993.

Grant also served on the CSTA Board for 12 years, including three years as Chair from 2011 – 2014.

While Grant will remain based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, he’s already been signed up as one of the Table Hosts in Ottawa for the upcoming Sport Tourism FORE-um hot topic discussions on November 21st.
