Action is heating up at the Pan American Cup in Gatineau

Aug. 11, 2022: The NORCECA Pan Am Cup at the Centre Slush Puppie in Gatineau, Quebec has already seen some exciting match-ups in the pool phase and on Thursday (Aug. 12), the event enters into the playoffs.

In Group A, Cuba and USA, both 2-0 so far, are proving tough to beat, and face each other at 5 pm today. Group B seems difficult to predict, with Mexico going undefeated so far. Canada (1-1) faces Brazil this evening in the 7 pm match.

“There are so many great countries here…,” explained Canada’s coach Dan Lewis. “We hardly ever see Chile; Brazil is younger, but they are highly skilled and they’re big so it’s super fun to play a group like that. Cuba’s A team just qualified for VNL, are now near the top 10 best teams in the world, with maybe arguably one of the best serving teams in the world. So I think opportunity to compete first for the (Canadian) guys, and then to actually be competing against some very talented teams, is really good for them.”
