True Sport – A True Sport Approach to Coach and Player Selection

Dear True Sport Member,

Spring has finally begun and a new sport season is upon us! Are you part of a sport organization that is committed to delivering good sport experiences? Start with selecting the right coaches! Be intentional in attracting and recruiting coaches that share your commitment to good sport.

True Sport is launching new resources to help! The Coach Selection Process is designed to help sport organizations select coaches that reflect their commitment to the seven True Sport Principles. With a goal of providing athletes with the best possible sport experience, sport organizations must ensure their athletes are coached by people with positive personal values.

Creating a positive environment for athletes to develop as people first demonstrates that you are offering the best possible environment for them. The Player Selection Process for Team Sports is a resource for organizations that provides an approach for coaches, taking into consideration the different rates at which children develop physically, emotionally and mentally.

True Sport was alive and well at the 2019 Canada Winter Games in Red Deer, AB. True Sport Player, Coach and Official Oaths were read at the Opening Ceremonies, while athletes embraced the seven True Sport Principles on and off the field of play. The Canada Games are quickly becoming world leaders by continuing to raise the bar for inclusivity, combining Para, able bodied and Special Olympic athletes, as well as allowing athletes to compete as the gender they identify with.
