Eight nominees for Men’s and Women’s Canada Soccer Player of the Year; Young (M+W), Para, and Futsal Players of the Year announced next week
Canada Soccer will announce their 2024 Canada Soccer Player Awards winners next week. Canadian sports media and coaches will vote for the Canada Soccer Players of the Year from a list of eight nominees from the Men’s and Women’s national programs selected by the respective national team coaching staffs. Canada Soccer coaching staffs from their respective programs will also determine Canada Soccer’s Young Player of the Year winners. Canada Soccer’s Para and Futsal coaching staffs will determine their Player of the Year winners. Finally, fans will vote for the 2024 Allstate Good Hands® Award.

SIMI AWUJO
Simi Awujo made 13 appearances for the CANWNT in 2024, including eight starts. At the club level, she transitioned from collegiate soccer at the University of Southern California to signing with Manchester United in the Women’s Super League in August 2024. Since joining Manchester United, Simi has made 10 appearances in the 2024-25 WSL season.
KADEISHA BUCHANAN
Kadeisha featured prominently for CANWNT in 2024, earning 14 caps and starting 14 matches. She earned her 150th CANWNT cap in Canada’s opening match of the Paris 2024 Olympics Women’s Football Tournament against New Zealand. She was named Gatorade Performance of the Match in Canada’s international friendly draw against Spain on October 25. At club level, she played a crucial role for Chelsea FC Women, appearing in 22 matches and helping secure both the FA Women’s Super League title and the Women’s FA Cup for the 2023-24 season.
JESSIE FLEMING
Jessie featured in all 16 of CANWNT’s matches in 2024, starting every game except one, and contributed 1 goal and 5 assists. At the club level, she made a high-profile move to the NWSL in January 2024, joining Portland Thorns FC from Chelsea FC Women in a record transfer deal. During the 2024 NWSL season, she made 26 appearances, starting 22 matches and recording one assist.
VANESSA GILLES
Vanessa anchored the CANWNT defense in 2024, starting and appearing in 14 matches, scoring 4 goals and 1 assist, including the stoppage-time clincher against France that secured a win in the group stage of the Olympic Women’s Football Tournament. Her commanding performances also extended to club football, where she made 25 appearances for Lyon in the 2023-24 season, playing a crucial role in their UEFA Women’s Champions League campaign and helping them clinch the Division 1 league title.
ASHLEY LAWRENCE
Ashley played a key role for CANWNT in 2024, starting in 15 of the team’s 16 matches and logging a total of 1396 minutes. At the club level with Chelsea FC, she participated in 5 matches during the 2024-2025 season, scoring one goal. Lawrence contributed to her team’s success in securing the FA Women’s Super League title for the 2023-24 season.
JADE ROSE
Jade continued to make strides with CANWNT in 2024, earning 13 caps and 13 starts. She was named Gatorade Performance of the Match in Canada’s 2024 Concacaf W Gold Cup semifinal against the United States. At Harvard University, she captained the team for the second consecutive season, starting in 11 matches, scoring 1 goal and providing 5 assists. She helped Harvard secure the Ivy League title, and she was named to the First-Team All-Ivy League.
KAILEN SHERIDAN
Kailen Sheridan played in 13 matches for CANWNT in 2024, registering six clean sheets, and delivered key performances during the W Gold Cup and the Olympic Women’s Football Tournament. She earned her 50th CANWNT cap against Mexico during the CANWNT Send-off series in June. At the club level, she was a cornerstone for San Diego Wave FC, starting 25 matches and recording six clean sheets.
EVELYNE VIENS
Evelyne Viens made 14 appearances for CANWNT in 2024, contributing 2 goals and 3 assists, including scoring her first Olympic goal in Canada’s opening match of the Paris 2024 Olympics Women’s Football Tournament against New Zealand. She was named Gatorade Performance of the Match in Canada’s 2024 Concacaf W Gold Cup quarterfinal against Costa Rica after scoring the only goal in a 1-0 victory. At the club level, Viens finished as the top scorer in Serie A with 14 goals in her debut season at AS Roma, where she helped her club secure its first-ever Serie A title.

MOÏSE BOMBITO
Moïse started and played 90 minutes in 13 of 14 CANMNT matches in 2024, registering one assist. He was named Gatorade Player of the Match in Canada’s defeat to the Netherlands in an international friendly. At club level, Moïse featured 20 times for Colorado Rapids in the MLS before moving to OGC Nice in Ligue 1 for an MLS-record fee for a centreback and a Colorado Rapids outbound transfer record. Since joining Nice, he’s appeared 17 times for the French side, while also making his debut in UEFA’s Europa League.
MAXIME CRÉPEAU
Maxime started in nine CANMNT matches in 2024, registering four clean sheets. He was named Gatorade Player of the Match on three occasions, most notably in Canada’s opening group stage match against Argentina at the 2024 Copa América. At club level, Maxime started 23 matches for the Portland Timbers in the MLS in 2024, earning them a spot in the 2024 MLS Cup Playoffs and Round of 32 at the 2024 Leagues Cup.
JONATHAN DAVID
Jonathan appeared in all 14 of CANMNT matches in 2024, registering five goals and three assists. He became CANMNT’s all-time leading goalscorer with his 31st goal for Canada, scoring against Suriname in the Concacaf Nations League Quarterfinal second leg. He made his 50th CANMNT cap against Peru in the 2024 Copa América group stage. He was named Gatorade Player of the Match on three occasions, most notably in Canada’s win over Peru in the 2024 Copa América group stage. At club level, Jonathan has featured 48 times for LOSC Lille, recording 36 goals and 10 assists so far, most notably scoring his 100th career goal for the Ligue 1 club in December. He is the current Ligue 1 top scorer for the 2024-25 season.
ALPHONSO DAVIES
Alphonso appeared in 12 CANMNT matches in 2024. In June, he was officially named captain of CANMNT, leading them to a fourth-place finish in their first ever appearance at a CONMEBOL Copa América. He made his 50th CANMNT cap against Chile in the 2024 Copa América group stage. At club level, Alphonso has featured 40 times for FC Bayern Munich, recording three goals and four assists so far, most notably a goal in the UEFA Champions League semifinal against Real Madrid. This month, he was named a nominee for the 2024 FIFA Men’s World 11.
STEPHEN EUSTÁQUIO
Stephen appeared in 13 CANMNT matches in 2024. In June, he was officially named vice-captain of CANMNT, leading them to a fourth-place finish in their first ever appearance at a CONMEBOL Copa América. At club level, Stephen has featured 34 times for FC Porto, recording two goals and an assist so far. In 2024, he won the Taça de Portugal and Portuguese Super Cup with the club.
ALISTAIR JOHNSTON
Alistair appeared in 12 CANMNT matches in 2024. He was named to the Best XI at the 2024 Copa América. He made his 50th CANMNT cap against Suriname in the Concacaf Nations League Quarterfinal first leg. At club level, Alistair has featured 41 times for Celtic FC, recording five goals and 11 assists so far. In 2024, he won the Scottish Premiership and League Cup with the club. This month, he was named a nominee for the 2024 FIFA Men’s World 11.
CYLE LARIN
Cyle appeared in 13 CANMNT matches in 2024, registering two goals and one assist. He was named Gatorade Player of the Match in Canada’s win over Trinidad & Tobago that qualified Canada for the 2024 Copa América. At club level, Cyle has featured 38 times for Mallorca, recording seven goals and four assists so far.
JACOB SHAFFELBURG
Jacob appeared in 13 CANMNT matches in 2024, registering five goals and one assist. He was named Gatorade Player of the Match on two occasions, most notably in Canada’s win over Venezuela in the 2024 Copa América quarterfinal. At club level, Jacob featured 29 times for Nashville SC, recording five goals and four assists earning them a spot in the Round of 16 at the 2024 Leagues Cup.
