Ottawa, Ont. – Softball Canada is pleased to announce the list of athletes who have been selected to represent Team Canada at the 2022 Men’s and Women’s Slo-Pitch Border Battle. The 12th edition of the Border Battle will be held for the first time since 2019 and will take place September 9 to 11 in Oklahoma City, Okla.
Each of the two Canadian teams will play a series of exhibition games before they take on Team USA in a one-game showdown at the Men’s and Women’s Slo-Pitch Border Battle games.
The list of athletes selected to participate was chosen by the coaching staff and a panel of Slo-Pitch experts from across the country. Performance at provincial, national and international events was used as one of the major contributors to the selections.
The Men’s coaching staff will consist of Grant Garrett (Georgetown, Ont.) who will serve as the head coach with Todd Cadenhead (Mossley, Ont.) and Mike Hrynenko (Winnipeg, Man.) serving as the assistant coaches.
The Women’s staff is comprised of head coach Tony Carnelos (Georgetown, Ont.) and assistant coaches Bruce Collett (Brampton, Ont.) and Kareena Zanolli (Taber, Alta.).
Softball Canada director Ryan DeBelser (Airdrie, Alta.) will be attending as team leader, with Mark Kiervin (Saint John, N.B.) as the athletic therapist for both teams.
