Sport Manitoba – Multi-party agreement officially signed
“The Manitoba Games powered by Manitoba Hydro are a vital development program as they help support and prepare our province’s top young athletes for national and international competitions,” said Jeff Hnatiuk, President and CEO of Sport Manitoba. “We are excited to once again partner with the City of Dauphin to host the Games.”
“The City of Dauphin is thrilled to be hosting the 2020 Summer Games and looks forward to formalizing the agreement with Sport Manitoba and Mountainview School Division this Wednesday, said Mayor Dowhan of the City of Dauphin. “The planning for the games is well underway and you can already feel the excitement in the air.”
This is the first of three installments of $50,000 that Sport Manitoba will provide to the Host Society to assist with the operating costs of hosting the Games. Each installment may support costs including, but not limited to administration, staffing, food services, and registration fees.
“The Dauphin Host Society is pleased to see today’s signing occur as it represents another step in the fulfilment of our commitment to host the 2020 Manitoba Games powered by Manitoba Hydro,” said Clayton Swanton, Co-Chair of the 2020 Manitoba Games powered by Manitoba Hydro Host Society. “We have been busy for the past year ensuring the mountain bike facility, the only games venue we didn’t have going into the bidding process, gets completed with plenty of time to ensure a first-rate event in 2020. With that asset set to be completed in the spring of 2019, we look forward to shifting our focus to implementing the Host Society’s roles and responsibilities as set out by Sport Manitoba. In conjunction with the City of Dauphin we are thrilled to be a part of this multi-party agreement to bring such a high calibre multi-sport event to Dauphin.”
“Sponsoring the bi-annual Manitoba Games powered by Manitoba Hydro is an opportunity for our organization to give something back to Manitobans,” said Manitoba Hydro’s President & CEO, Kelvin Shepherd. “Our involvement in the games helps us build valuable partnerships in communities across the province while supporting amateur sports and youth.”
Manitoba Hydro has been the title sponsor of the Manitoba Games since they were held in Beausejour in 2006. The Games have also been hosted by Carman, Portage la Prairie, Swan River, Morden-Winkler, Steinbach and most recently, Thompson.
“Manitoba Hydro has had the enormous privilege of working with Manitoba’s finest,” Shepherd said. “Whether they were our employee volunteers; Host Society volunteers, community leaders, local businesses, coaches, officials or Sport Manitoba staff, everyone has worked together to make the Games a memorable experience for the thousands of amateur athletes that have competed over these years. Manitoba Hydro has been proud to partner with these terrific communities and the residents who call them home. Congratulations Dauphin! We’re excited to join you in 2020.”
