Rowing Canada Aviron – Join us at the 2019 RCA National Conference to hear from keynote speaker Dame Katherine Grainger, Chair of UK Sport, supported by the Rowing Industry Trade Association (RITA).

Katherine is Britain’s most decorated female Olympic athlete and rower of all-time and the first British woman to win medals at five successive Olympic Games. Katherine serves as an ambassador, patron or board member of various charities and sporting bodies and this was recognized when, to round off an exceptional 20-year career in sport, she became Dame Katherine Grainger in the 2017 New Year’s Honours List.

Katherine Grainger will speak to her first experiences in sport, what it meant to her then, and what it means to her now. As one of the most decorated female Olympians in history, she will reflect on the journey that took her from the boathouse to her current role as Chair of UK Sport. She is uniquely positioned to talk about the ability of sport to uplift and transform both individuals and communities.

Katherine will speak about the forces that threaten to undermine sport’s role in shaping our youth and society and will address steps needed to deal with seemingly increasing prevalence of issues such as abuse, concussion, doping and corruption in sport. Katherine will also highlight the significance of adopting of a robust Safe Sport agenda and the importance of our collective and individual responsibilities in securing the future of sport as a force for good in these challenging and uncertain times.

“The Rowing Industry Trade Association is pleased to partner with RCA to promote this initiative,” said RITA co-chair, Glen Burston.  “As an association of companies working within the rowing community, we would like to welcome Dame Katherine Grainger and thank Rowing Canada Aviron for the opportunity to show our support.  Leadership in sport comes in many forms and we applaud RCA for their efforts to grow our sport by ensuring our members are protected.”

This session will benefit all sport leaders in Canada! Join RCA and the Rowing Industry Trade Association in Calgary for this keynote session from 8:30am-9:30am on Saturday, January 26, 2019.
