13 Canadians Nominated Ahead of the 2020 Americas Olympic Qualification Event

Montreal – February 18, 2020. With 36 days to go before the competition, Boxing Canada announces the team roster that will compete at the upcoming Americas Olympic Qualification Event set to take place March 26 – April 3 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The Boxing Canada Olympic Qualification Team was nominated following the 2019 Canadian Trial as well as an extensive selection process where the boxers had to meet specific requirements ahead of the nomination.

Here are the nominated athletes:
MEN
52 kg Justin Parina
57 kg Eric Basran
63 kg Thomas Blumenfeld
69 kg Wyatt Sanford
75 kg Jaquan Carty
81 kg John Michael Bianco
91 kg Bryan Colwell
91+ kg Christophe Bernier

WOMEN
51 kg Mandy Bujold
57 kg Caroline Veyre
60 kg Irene Fiolek
69 kg Myriam Da Silva
75 kg Tammara Thibeault

Organized by the IOC task force, the Continental Qualifier will be the first international qualification event for the Olympic hopefuls who will be looking to secure their spot ahead of Tokyo 2020 and a total of 49 quota will be available across the thirteen weight categories. Indeed, a total of 33 quotas are available in 8 men’s weight categories and for women’s, there
are 16 quotas available in the 5 weight categories (consult the full Olympic qualification process and quota breakdown here). A list of alternates has also been notified if case of injury or other ineligibility from one of the boxers before the competition.

A final World Qualification Event will be held May 13-24 in Paris, France where boxers will have a last opportunity to qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
