Venue Technology Specialist
Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre Inc. is currently seeking a Full-Time Venue Technology Specialist to join our team!
The Venue Technology Specialist ensures the seamless operation of specialized technology systems at Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre (TPASC). This role requires an adaptable, self-directed learner who can master and maintain diverse specialized systems, including Swiss Timing and Scoring, Daktronics, Audio/Video, parking, and Honeywell security systems. Working under the supervision of the Senior Manager of IT & Integrated Technology Solutions, this position supports implementing international standards while providing essential operational expertise. The ideal candidate demonstrates exceptional problem-solving abilities, technical versatility, and thrives in a dynamic environment supporting world-class sporting events, university athletics, and community programs.
The key accountabilities of the role include, but are not limited to:
Core Technical & Event Support
- Ensure reliable operation of specialized timing, scoring, security, and audiovisual systems throughout the facility in alignment with international standards
- Operate and manage technology for events of varying scales and requirements, including setup, testing, and real-time troubleshooting
- Set up digital displays, scoreboards, and timing systems for competitions while ensuring integration with facility management systems
- Develop expertise in specialized systems through self-directed learning and research
- Coordinate with contractors for maintenance and repairs while implementing emergency response protocols during technical disruptions
- Manage inventory of technology hardware, software, and resources
- Provide technological support for both internal and external events
Specialized System Support & Innovation
- Configure specialized timing systems for competitions, including Olympic-level events
- Support high-performance training areas with adaptive technology solutions
- Assist with building automation systems, security, and access control integration
- Monitor energy efficiency and sustainability of technology operations
- Support real-time data analytics for facility optimization
- Identify innovation opportunities and test new technologies
- Stay current with industry developments and contribute insights to the venue’s technology roadmap
Documentation and Knowledge Management
- Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for all specialized systems
- Develop standard operating procedures, quick-reference guides, and training materials
- Implement preventative maintenance schedules and track system performance metrics
- Maintain documentation on international standards and compliance requirements
Stakeholder Engagement
- Serve as operational liaison with sports organizations and event organizers
- Communicate effectively with international officials and organizational representatives
- Train and support staff and volunteers on equipment operation
- Coordinate technology needs across diverse user groups (elite athletes, university staff, community members)
What We Need From You:
Education and Experience
- College diploma or university degree in Information Technology, Electronics, Computer Science, or related field
- Minimum 5 years of experience with specialized technology systems
- Ability to operate Swiss Timing and Scoring System (Omega timing system with Aries controller at minimum, Quantum controller preferred)
- Familiarity with electronic equipment, security systems, and sporting event logistics
Technical Skills
- Experience with specialized timing/scoring systems and AV equipment
- Demonstrated ability to learn specialized systems quickly
- Advanced troubleshooting skills for hardware and software
- Knowledge of building management systems and security integration
- Strong documentation and knowledge management abilities
Interpersonal Skills
- Exceptional problem-solving abilities, particularly under pressure
- Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Experience in game day operations and event support
- Ability to explain complex technical concepts to diverse audiences
- Comfort with being the technical authority during critical situations
Working Conditions
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and some holidays
- Physical ability to lift technical equipment (up to 25kg)
- On-call availability during major competitions and events
- Adaptability to work in various environments, including pool areas and gymnasiums
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in multi-purpose sports facilities or event venues
- Knowledge of Olympic/Paralympic technical requirements
- Certification in specialized timing systems (Omega, Daktronics)
- Understanding of sustainability principles and energy-efficient operations
- Experience with real-time analytics and performance monitoring
Three professional references will be required, and the successful candidate will be required to obtain a Police Vulnerable Sector Check.
