The Program:

The Academy for Student Athlete Development (ASAD) supports student athletes on able-bodied, Paralympic, and Special Olympic performance pathways by creating equitable access to high performance sport training.

ASAD aims to deliver a high performance program that goes beyond the field of play, empowering individuals to achieve personal goals in athletic performance, academics, and life. ASAD works in collaboration with a team of experts and leaders in the Canadian Sport System to create a dedicated training environment and program where student athletes can elevate their game.

The Position:

Reporting to the President and CEO, the Senior Coordinator, ASAD Durham is responsible for the program planning, coordination, supervision, and evaluation of all activities pertaining to ASAD at the respective local campus.

What You’ll Do:

Registration and Enrollment.

  • You will oversee the admissions’ process from Initial Expression of Interest to Enrolment for your respective local campus, which will include:
  • Responding to student athlete Expression of Interest
  • Leading the application, review, and selection process in collaboration with the Application Review Panel
  • Communicating with parents of student athletes on the status of their application and managing any wait lists, and
  • Coordinating successful student athlete enrolment utilizing Abilities Centre’s online registration platform.
  • You will oversee the online registration platform modules for your respective local campus.

Program Development and Delivery.

  • In collaboration with Academy partners, you will develop and implement annual athletic and academic schedules and calendars.
  • You will coordinate and deliver tours, information sessions, and “day in the life” student visits geared towards ASAD Skill Streams.
  • You will coordinate the facility room bookings for effective ASAD operations (internally and externally).
  • You will coordinate daily logistics and travel to ensure safe and effective ASAD operations. You will ensure student athletes are always supervised and in a safe environment.
  • You will ensure all student athlete documentation are completed and up to date, including waivers and progress reports.
  • You will work with Integrated Support Team (IST) practitioners, guest coaches, speakers, and teachers to schedule workshops and seminars.
  • You will work with the IST, families, and students to book athlete injury and concussions assessments, and you will support any corresponding injury reports, treatments, program modifications and follow up communications.
  • You will support the delivery of Strength and Conditioning sessions, as needed.

Supervision and Personnel Development.

  • You will manage the day-to-day supervision of ASAD at your respective local campus, including planning, scheduling, and work distribution, and will complete bi-weekly payroll for front-line staff.
  • You will provide direction and leadership to the ASAD Staff and Skills Stream Coaches in the delivery of programs and services.
  • You will identify and coordinate ongoing training for staff, placement students and volunteers, including identifying and supporting individual professional development opportunities.
  • You will collaborate with the Human Resources Department to recruit, train, and retain staff, volunteers, and placement students.
  • You will be responsible for performance management including ongoing coaching for staff, volunteers, and placement students.

Communication and Collaboration.

  • You will organize weekly communications for your ASAD location, ensuring student athletes and parents are informed of upcoming schedules, events, and general program updates.
  • You will liaise with the Finance Department to confirm student admissions and their respective fees and payment schedules, and you will communicate with student athletes and parents as needed.
  • You will collaborate with the Marketing & Communications Department to maintain up-to-date admissions literature, information packages, website and social media content, and ASAD marketing materials.
  • You will collaborate with the Research Department to implement the program evaluation processes.
  • You will foster a work environment that values and encourages teamwork, inclusion, and accountability.
  • You will cultivate a genuine, person-centred environment through exceptional customer service.
  • You will establish rapport and maintain effective relationships with staff, volunteers, funders, and community partners.

Administration and Financial Management.

  • You will submit, track, and monitor ASAD program expenses, adhering to budget, registration, and communication timelines.
  • You will provide administrative and clerical support to ensure the efficient delivery of ASAD programming, including oversight of ASAD Skills Stream Coach contracts and invoicing.
  • You will attend management and partner meetings, as required.

What You’ll Bring:

Education and Experience. 

  • You have post-secondary education in sport, physical education, or related field.
  • You have 3+ years experience working with high performance and/or student athletes; personal experience as a high-performance athlete is an asset.
  • You have experience working with provincial or national sport organizations in athlete and/or high-performance system development.
  • You have experience working with able-bodied, para, and Special Olympic athletes.
  • You have a strong knowledge of the Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) Model and its application to student athletes.
  • You are proficient in Microsoft 365 and have knowledge of ACTIVENet or similar recreation management software.

Communication and Organization.

  • You have outstanding verbal and written communication skills and are comfortable presenting to large groups.
  • You have superior administrative and organizational skills demonstrating thoroughness and attention to detail.
  • You are self-motivated, and results-oriented; you demonstrate initiative and contribute to a work environment that values and encourages innovation.

Administrative Requirements.

  • It is required that you have a current, clear vulnerable sector check.
  • It is required that you have current, valid First Aid and CPR ‘C’ / AED.
  • You are flexible regarding work schedule, including days, evenings, and weekends.
