Position Overview
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Managing Director ensures that Milton Skating Club (MSC) operates effectively and efficiently in an inclusive and safe environment while ensuring the growth and sustainability of all Club programs. The Managing Director is accountable for the administration and operations of MSC in compliance with all Skate Canada and legislative requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Accountable for long term planning of MSC in partnership with the Board of Directors making recommendations related to governance, financial and program management.
- Accountable for financial reporting, ensuring compliance with non-profit regulations and financial sustainability.
- Builds and manages MSC annual budget and investment portfolio, in coordination with the Board Treasurer.
- Recommends annual member and program fees to the Board of Directors, in coordination with the Technical Director and Board Treasurer.
- Identifies and executes fundraising opportunities, including sponsorships and grants.
- Responsible for reporting to the Board monthly to demonstrate effective and efficient operations of MSC.
- Provides leadership, guidance, and supervision to MSC Technical Director, Convenors, CanSkate Coordinator, Office Administrator and coaches.
- Works closely with Technical Director, Convenors, CanSkate Coordinator, Office Administrator and coaches to ensure high-quality Skate Canada programming, including CanSkate, Power Skating, STARSkate, and competitive streams.
- Accountable for ensuring successful Test Days, MSC competitions, events and bi-annual MSC show in partnership with the Technical Director, Convenors and Office Administrator.
- Builds and sustains MSC membership including developing attraction strategies, managing the MSC registration process and membership renewals as well as providing exceptional customer service to members and their families.
- Maintains MSC policies and procedures to ensure a safe and inclusive environment for all participants.
- Ensures compliance with Skate Canada policies, Safe Sport guidelines, MSC and Town of Milton bylaws and policies.
- Acts as the primary liaison between the Board with staff, coaches, skaters, families, and external partners such as local businesses, Skate Canada and Town of Milton to build positive relationships and resolve conflicts.
- Oversees contracts, insurance, and legal matters related to MSC operations.
- Enhances MSC visibility through social media, website newsletters, and promotional initiatives within the Milton Sports Centre.
- Represents MSC at local, provincial, and national events within the Skate Canada community.
- Responsible for day-to-day operations of MSC office at Milton Sports Centre.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Post secondary education in sports management, business administration, non-profit management, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum of 3-5 years of leadership experience along with experience leading or collaborating with a community-based Board of Directors.
- Knowledge of figure skating, Skate Canada policies, and skating club operations are an asset (or equivalent experience working with a governing sport body).
- Financial management experience, including sponsorship, accounting, budgeting, and fundraising.
- Working knowledge of related legislation such as the Employment Standards Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Safe Sport and Child, Youth and Family Services Act.
- Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills along with experience fostering an inclusive, engaged and respectful work environment
- Experience reviewing, analyzing, and writing policies for a youth organization.
- Excellent communication, organizational, problem solving, decision making, customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to build strong relationships with skaters, families, coaches, staff and community partners such as the Town of Milton, local businesses, MSC accountant and bookkeeper.
- Experience with marketing, social media, and event planning is preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office with knowledge of membership management software such as Uplifter an asset.
