Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre Inc. is currently seeking a Full Time Manager, Venue Technology, Systems, and Operations to join our team!
Reporting to the Senior Manager, IT & Integrated Technology Solutions, The Manager, Venue Technology, Systems, and Operations, holds full responsibility and accountability for the specialized technology systems, including audio-visual (AV), sports technology, building operations technology, and digital infrastructure in the facility. This includes strategic planning, operational execution, maintenance, education, and ongoing innovation to ensure all systems support world-class sport competition delivery models. This role will ensure that systems such as the Swiss Timing and Scoring System, Daktronics scoring system, company designated parking system, Honeywell security system, and AV systems are fully operational and meet international standards. The Manager will lead technological education efforts, ensuring all stakeholders are trained, supported, and empowered to utilize venue technologies effectively. They will also champion best practices and innovation, continuously integrating cutting-edge global advancements in sports technology, competition delivery, and venue operations.
The key accountabilities of the role include, but are not limited to:
Full Responsibility & Oversight of Venue Technology Systems
- Assume end-to-end accountability for all audio-visual (AV), sports technology, building systems, including specialized technology systems like the Swiss Timing and Scoring System, Daktronics scoring system, company designated parking system, Honeywell security system, and others.
- Lead troubleshooting and technical support efforts for timing, scoring, AV systems, and other specialized equipment during events.
- Ensure that all AV, competition timing/scoring, event broadcasting, and facility control systems operate at peak performance.
- Maintain detailed documentation of all technology systems, configurations, and maintenance logs.
- Oversee contractors performing preventive maintenance and repair work on systems.
Maintenance, Performance, and Lifecycle Management
- Develop and execute preventive maintenance programs for all specialized systems, including Swiss Timing and Scoring, Daktronics scoring system, AV systems, and security systems to maximize uptime and longevity.
- Ensure all equipment is regularly inspected, serviced, and upgraded to meet evolving industry standards, including AV, timing, scoring, and building operations technologies.
- Oversee troubleshooting and emergency response plans to address system failures promptly.
- Manage vendor contracts, warranties, and service-level agreements (SLAs) for specialized systems like AV systems and security technologies.
Education, Training & User Support
- Develop and implement a comprehensive training program for facility staff, tenants, and officials on all technology systems. This includes training on specialized systems like the Swiss Timing and Scoring System and Daktronics scoring system.
- Ensure all users are supported with ongoing guidance and support to effectively operate the venue’s technology infrastructure.
- Provide workshops and ongoing education initiatives on new systems, upgrades, and best practices.
- Establish a technology helpdesk function to assist users and resolve issues proactively.
Innovation & Best-Practice Leadership
- Research, evaluate, and integrate cutting-edge technologies such as AI-driven performance analytics, IoT-based facility management, digital fan engagement platforms, and innovations in timing, scoring, and AV systems.
- Stay at the forefront of global sports technology trends and ensure the venue remains a leader in competition delivery technology.
- Partner with industry leaders, technology providers, and sports governing bodies to pilot and implement world-leading solutions.
Event & Sport Competition Technology Management
- Provide full technical leadership for all competitions hosted in the facility (National, international etc.,).
- Ensure seamless integration of scoring, timing, and replay technologies for all sporting events.
- Set up and manage digital displays, scoreboards, and timing systems for competitions and events, including high-performance training areas.
- Act as the primary technical liaison for international federations, competition officials, and event organizers.
Facility & Building Technology Systems
- Oversee the operation of all building automation, security, lighting, climate control, and access control systems.
- Ensure all technology systems are aligned with energy efficiency, sustainability, and smart venue initiatives.
- Monitor real-time facility data analytics to optimize operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
- Ensure compliance with building codes, cybersecurity standards, and industry best practices.
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead a team of venue technology specialists, AV technicians, and facility operations staff.
- Provide mentorship, performance management, and career development opportunities for the team.
- Establish a collaborative work environment between operations, IT, security, and event management teams.
- Develop succession plans to ensure long-term stability in venue technology leadership.
Budgeting & Strategic Planning
- Develop and manage budgets for venue technology, capital investments, and operational expenses.
- Create a multi-year technology roadmap for facility upgrades and innovation projects.
- Negotiate contracts, procurement agreements, and vendor partnerships for cutting-edge technology solutions and other duties as required.
What We Need From You:
- College diploma or university degree in IT, Electronics, Computer Science, or a related field
- 5+ years of experience with specialized technology systems, including timing and scoring systems (e.g., Swiss Timing, Omega, Quantum)
- Knowledge of AV systems, digital displays, broadcasting equipment, and security/access control systems
- Familiar with aquatic events, sporting event logistics, and game day operations
- Proficient in troubleshooting hardware/software and system integration
- Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences
- Experience in inventory management, equipment maintenance, and customer service
- Ability to work independently or in teams and coordinate with diverse user groups (athletes, staff, community members)
- Must be able to occasionally work evenings, weekends, overnights and some holidays.
- Three professional references will be required, and the successful candidate will be required to obtain a Police Vulnerable Sector Check.
