Gymnastics Canada (GymCan) is the national governing body for the sport of gymnastics in Canada, overseeing all disciplines including men’s (MAG) and women’s (WAG) artistic, rhythmic (RG), trampoline (TR), and emerging disciplines. With a mission to lead and support the growth of gymnastics across the country, we play a key role in athlete development, coach and judge education and development, national events and high-performance excellence. Who we are looking for
Chief Executive Officer
As GymCan’s new CEO, in the evolutive context of our overall amateur sport ecosystem, you will be instrumental in helping to secure the future of gymnastics in Canada. Over and above its direct impact on the organization, your role will be key in propelling Canadian gymnastics to a whole new level!
- You will plan, organize, direct and monitor all operations and activities related to the proper functioning
- of the organization.
- You will proactively prepare the organization for the next chapter of its history by revamping some of its practices, reshaping its standards and reinvigorating its internal work environment – you will act as a change agent and lead a cultural shift.
- You will thrivingly lead and represent GymCan externally and bolster solid relationships with stakeholders, funding bodies, corporate partners, donors and suppliers.
- Working conjointly with the board, your will execute the new strategic plan in line with the overall objectives to achieve performance excellence.
- You will ensure that the mission, vision and values are brought to life within the organization.
- You will spell out, ascertain and clearly communicate, internally and externally, the mandate for change.
- You will develop the growth strategy and lead the business development function to leverage GymCan’s revenue potential while fostering new approaches to general independent revenue.
- You will make the necessary staffing and process changes to increase organizational efficiencies and to meet operational needs and service level expectations.
- You will assess and manage talent and human capital needs, and you will ensure that your teams are optimally engaged.
- You will enhance relationships with key stakeholders and inspire all parties involved in the sport to work collaboratively towards the same national goal.
- You will support the new high-performance leader in driving for sustainable Olympic podium within a “safe environment, while leveraging that success to strengthen important partnerships and unlock new resources.
- You will be accountable for the budget and P&L of the organization
Who you are
- You have a bachelor’s degree in business administration or in sports management.
- If you have completed an MBA or any other relevant graduate studies, it will be a plus.
- Any other relevant academic background will also be considered.
- You have a minimum of 10 years of experience as a CEO, Executive Director, General Manager or in a senior leadership position in a relevant environment.
- You are a proven business leader with recognized leadership skills.
- Through past experiences, you have acquired an in-depth knowledge and understanding of
- Canadian amateur sport and are comfortable navigating across this complex sport system.
- You have been exposed to high performance and thoroughly understand its ecosystem.
- You commendably performed in a change management context and operated significant organizational transformations.
- You have successfully evolved in complex environments with multiple stakeholders – your work history includes dealing with numerous partners including government instances, funding bodies, corporate partners, donors and other financial allies.
- You have a positive track record in people management and have achieved high levels of employee engagement.
- You have a confirmed track record in both operations’ efficiency and commercial development and have noticeable accomplishments in securing corporate partnerships and alliances.
- You have successfully dealt with safe sport and will be a champion to ensure it is woven through all aspects of gymnastics.
- Your financial qualifications have led to proven success in budget optimization and in strategizing funding.
- You have already demonstrated that working hand in hand with the board is one of your key strengths.
- Your background includes the successful management of remote employees located across
- the country.
- You love sport and the deep added value it brings to society.
- You are strategic and forward thinking, but you have a strong focus on operation excellence
- and efficiency.
- You have a clear vision of where amateur sport needs to go to secure the participation and development of future generations of athletes, and to safeguard its financial perennity.
- You understand the essence and the mission of national sports governing bodies, but you clearly grasp the importance to tackle the issues with a business mindset.
- You are capable to instigate business transformation, to support organizational remodeling and to manage culture change.
- Your leadership style is open, collaborative, engaging and inspiring. You are dynamic and known for your aptitude at building trust.
- You are an excellent listener who exhibits empathy.
- You display superior people management skills, set clear expectations and empower people while making them accountable.
- You have excellent interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills, with a strong ability to collaborate and interact at all levels of the ecosystem – you are open and transparent.
- You are natural at creating alignment, at gaining buy-in, at breaking down siloes and at developing a sense of unity.
- You demonstrate a strong capacity and willingness to navigate in complex environments and to deal with multiple stakeholders (provincial/territorial bodies, government instances, athletes, coaches, judges, clubs, etc.) – you are known for building strong bridges externally and for setting new relationships.
- You are recognized for your ease to perform in political environments and for your ability to
- read the room.
- You are a change agent and proficient at restructuring organizations.
- You have a proven capability to manage a P&L, driven by revenue growth and are motivated by financial success.
- You have the capacity to unlock new sources of revenue, to bolster corporate sponsorship and to innovate with new business models.
- You are willing to travel domestically to engage with stakeholders and will afford a regular presence in the Greater Toronto and Montreal areas.
- You master written and spoken English but are ideally fluent in French.
